Recently Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lakshadweep which has many beaches like the Maldives. Many people go to the Maldives for their beaches while India’s Lakshadweep also has picturesque beaches.

However, derogatory comments by Maldivian politicians targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lakshadweep visit, a jewel of Indian tourism, sparked outrage in India, fueling nationalist voices and casting a shadow over Indo-Maldivian ties.

Now, travel booking company Easy My Trip has decided that they will not accept any bookings for Maldives. But MakeMyTrip has not yet refused to take bookings for Maldives. This is assumed to be because of their board of directors who are Chinese. This has caused outrage among Indians who were one of the largest tourists in Maldives last year and are now uninstalling Make My Trip.
