Top 5 players with the most hat-tricks in the UEFA Champions League history

Top players and teams from throughout Europe are competing in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League for the best trophy in club football. Football is ultimately a straightforward sport in which the team with the most goals wins. Because of this, forwards and goal scorers have been and still are the most admired footballers worldwide.

For any elite player, scoring in the Champions League should be their ultimate ambition. After all, only the best athletes from the continent are allowed to participate in the competition. The standard of football being played is quite good as a result. At the biggest stage of them all, only the best in the business have scored hat tricks.

Let’s survey the list of 5 players with the most hat-tricks in the UEFA Champions League history:

5. Mario Gomez: 3 Hat-Tricks

One of his generation’s most underappreciated strikers is Mario Gomez. He had a very successful career and was a fantastic goal scorer. The physically intimidating and tall Gomez was skilled at aerial combat and could shoot with both feet. Gomez was the focal point of Bayern Munich’s final third offensive as Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery caused chaos down the flanks.

The former German international played for the Bavarians in all three of his Champions League hat tricks. Gomez made 44 games in the Champions League, scoring 26 goals and assisting on six more.

4. Karim Benzema: 4 Hat-Tricks

One of his generation’s top attackers is Karim Benzema. For Real Madrid, the Frenchman has been outstanding for more than ten years, and despite his age, he is still outstanding.

Four of Benzema’s hat-tricks in the Champions League have come for Real Madrid. In the Round of 16 and quarterfinals of last season, respectively, against Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, two of those four hat-tricks were scored. One of the best all-around attackers in the world, Benzema has the potential to rack up more hat tricks before hanging up his boots.

3. Robert Lewandowski: 6 Hat-Tricks

In recent years, Robert Lewandowski has made a name for himself as one of the top strikers of the modern era. The international striker from Poland is among the most productive players in history. In the previous two seasons, he won the European Golden Shoe.

Lewandowski, who transferred from Bayern Munich to Barcelona this summer, has six Champions League hat tricks to his credit. In the most competitive league in Europe, he gave Borussia Dortmund his first hat-trick. Then, Lewandowski scored four goals for Bayern Munich. On September 7, the 34-year-old defeated Victoria Plzen in his Champions League debut for Barcelona and earned a hat-trick.

2. Lionel Messi: 8 Hat-Tricks

Lionel Messi has scored 8 hat-tricks in the Champions League and all of them were for Barcelona. He also holds the record for a single club’s most Champions League hat-tricks scored.

Four times in his career, the seven-time Ballon d’Or champion has prevailed in Europe’s premier contest. Messi has scored 125 goals in 147 games in Europe. His goal total in the competition is only 15 goals away from matching that of Ronaldo, who is widely regarded as the greatest player to ever play the game.

1. Cristiano Ronaldo: 8 Hat-Tricks

Cristiano Ronaldo sometimes goes by the name Mr. Champions League and is the top goal scorer in the Champions League. He has 183 appearances in the competition, 140 goals, and five Champions League championships to his credit.

Due to Manchester United’s failure to earn a spot in the competition, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner will not be taking part this year. In his career, Ronaldo has recorded eight hat tricks in the Champions League.

He got a single hat trick for Juventus and 7 for Real Madrid. With 3 hat-tricks in the 2015–16 Champions League season, Ronaldo set the record for the most hat-tricks in a single season.
