UEFA Champions League positional awards winners for 2018/19

UEFA have announced the winners of the 2018/19 Champions League positional awards winners during Thursday’s Champions League group stage draw.

Champions League Goalkeeper of the Season 2018/19

Liverpool’s Alisson Becker has won the Goalkeeper of the Season award for the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League campaign. In his first season with the Reds after a move from Roma, Alisson wore the No. 13 shirt. He made some key saves in the tight final in Madrid as Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League. The 26-year-old Brazilian also kept 21 Premier League clean sheets, landing the Premier League’s Golden Glove award.

Champions League Defender of the Season 2018/19

Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk has won the Defender of the Season award for the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League campaign. The 28-year-old Dutchman was a colossus as the Reds won their sixth European Cup, and was named man of the match following his imperious performance in the decider in Madrid.
Van Dijk was also named as the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year 2018/19.

Frenkie de Jong has won the Midfielder of the Season award for the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League campaign following his impressive performances for Ajax. The 22-year-old became one of the hottest properties in European football as Ajax surprised all the top clubs including Real Madrid and Juventus to battle their way through to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. But eventually, they bowed out to Tottenham in the semi-final.
Frenkie De Jong’s inspired Champions League performances has earned him a move to Barcelona this season.
