Real Madrid and Liverpool are through all the way to Kyiv !!
These were the results of the 2 legged semi final draw.
1st leg :
Mohammad Salah inspired the Reds to a 5-2 win against AS Roma. He proved to the footballing world that in this season he’s no less than Ronaldo and Messi.
Marco Asensio also made his place stronger as one of the best youngsters. He helped the Los Blancos to take an important lead that too in the away match.
2nd leg :
Benzema rose to form when it mattered the most. The first goal, he headed the ball beautifully beyond the Munich’s defence. Later, Ulerich almost gifted him the second goal. But credit should be given to his awareness.
Bayern had started the game brilliantly. They took the lead as early as in the 3rd minute through Kimmich. But then Benzema’s two goals had them in the backfoot. Still they attacked the Mardid goal and James got the second goal to tie the draw. But some fine saves from Navas kept them from getting the final and all important third goal. And Madrid went through to the final in Kyiv.
In the other match, Liverpool survived a Roma onslaught in the Stadio Olimpico to reach an eighth European Cup final after a tie that equalled the record for the most goals in a two-legged UEFA Champions League contest.
Trailing 5-2 after the game on Merseyside, Roma’s hopes of mounting another remarkable comeback suffered a knock within nine minutes. Radja Nainggolan’s pass was cut out by Roberto Firmino, and the Brazilian slid through for Sadio Mané to shoot past Alisson Becker.
Substitute Cengiz Ãœnder, El Shaarawy and Džeko again all went close as Roma pressed. It took a smart Alisson stop to prevent Firmino restoring Liverpool’s lead on the night. With four minutes left Nainggolan found the net from range via a post, and then smashed in a penalty in the final seconds after Ragnar Klavan had been penalised, but time ran out for Roma. And Roma fell short of only 1 goal after a thrilling match to keep the draw alive and head into extra time.
So now, it’s Ronaldo vs Salah in the UCL final in Kyiv on 26th May.
If Madrid wins, it will be their 3rd UCL title in 3 seasons which will be a record. No team has ever done it before. And if Liverpool wins then it will mark their entry into the elite clubs of Europe once more.
