Ubisoft is bringing two of its biggest franchises to VR with new chapters. The company has announced that it’ll be bringing its Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed franchises exclusively on Oculus VR.
Ubisoft made the reveal as at the Oculus Connect virtual event. Ubisoft’s Red Storm Entertainment is leading both of the projects as they are known for the work on VR titles like Werewolves Within and Star Trek: Bridge Crew, as well as non-VR games like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. Both the VR games are also being co-developed by Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Reflections.
The event suggests that both Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed franchises will deliver fully-fledged VR experiences and it seems that it’s exclusive for Oculus VR. Its been seven years since the release of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist and after that, no Splinter Cell game was released or announced. So, this makes a piece of good news for the Splinter Cell fans.
One’s who are new and don’t know about Splinter Cell, let me tell you about that. The first sequel of the game was released in 2002 by Ubisoft and Gameloft. It is an award-winning series and it’s a stealth shooter game. The main protagonist of the series is Sam Fisher, a highly trained agent of a fictional black-ops sub-division within the NSA, dubbed “Third Echelon”. The series is comprised of seven games in total and along with Assassin’s Creed, the series is considered to be one of Ubisoft’s flagship franchises, selling more than 31 million copies as of 2011.
It was not revealed much in the event but we hope soon they will reveal much detailed information along with a teaser or gameplay.
