Ubisoft dumps the development of Immortals Fenix Rising in favour of more Assassin’s Creed Games

Ubisoft has replied to a recent rumor that the sequel to Immortals Fenix Rising has been canceled. While the corporation did not explicitly corroborate the report, its official comments do not encourage confidence that another Immortals Fenix Rising game is on the way.

The game Immortals Fenix Rising, previously called Gods and Monsters, received positive reviews and feedback from players when it was released towards the end of 2020. Following its success, Ubisoft Quebec promptly started working on a sequel. According to an industry insider, the upcoming game, codenamed Oxygen, is more of a spinoff rather than a typical sequel.

The same leaker also released the purported July 2022 release date for Immortals Fenix Rising 2, which was the last piece of unofficial information regarding the project until its cancellation rumour surfaced a year later.

According to VGC, Ubisoft abandoned plans to develop the sequel to Immortals Fenix Rising due to legal issues around the IP.

The game was said to be based on Hawaiian Polynesian culture, and Ubisoft planned to make it into a series. If the Immortals Fenix Rising sequel has indeed been canceled, Ubisoft’s reticence to confirm its cancellation could be explained by the fact that the sequel to its Breath of the Wild-inspired game was never officially revealed. Specifically, in previous shareholder filings, the corporation has only mentioned cancellations of never-revealed projects, not media inquiry responses.
