Lionel Messi has finally etched his name in the Greatest Of All Time list. The only trophy which eluded him has now been finally won! Argentina won the 2022 World Cup 4-2 on penalties, following a 3-3 draw that can easily be considered one of the best games in the history of the sport.

Argentina started the match in an outstanding fashion and was 2-0 up in the first half. France started playing from the 80th minute onwards as Mbappe’s 2 goals in 97 seconds made the score equal and from then on it was one of the best-ever finals. Messi and Mbappe both scored in the extra time and eventually, it went on to the penalties. Emiliano Martinez is a completely different goalkeeper in penalties and deservedly won the match for Argentina as Messi lifts the World Cup.

This is the best game of football I've ever watched. Every emotion displayed and felt for 120 minutes and then through every take from the spot. What a show. What a sport. Lionel Messi 💙🤍

Many congratulations to Argentina on doing this for Messi! Wonderful comeback from the way they started the campaign.

Special mention to Martinez for the spectacular save towards the end of extra time. That was a clear indication to me that Argentina would clinch this. pic.twitter.com/KoXOTl1fSE

Appreciation tweet for Kylian Mbappe! He scored a World Cup final hat-trick and yet ended up on the losing side. What a player and he's only 23 years old ❤️ #FIFAWorldCup pic.twitter.com/VOTzSfqW7V

Messi winning a World Cup is quite rightly the story. But it doesn't even get written if it wasn't for Martinez. What a save at the end and then absolutely owned those penalties

— Mark Goldbridge (@markgoldbridge) December 18, 2022

Spare a thought for Kylian Mbappe. Greatness embraced him today. But reserved a farewell for Messi.

— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) December 18, 2022

Impossible to forget this performance by Kylian Mbappé ⭐️🇫🇷 #Mbappé

Hat trick in a World Cup final.

Also, one more penalty scored.

12 World Cup goals in two editions.

…fair to remember he’s still 23!
