What Is Tuner About?

At its core, Tuner is a film about talent pushed to its darkest edge. Leo Woodall plays a gifted young piano tuner whose ears are so finely attuned that he can detect the slightest variations in sound and pitch — a rare, almost supernatural gift. When that same skill turns out to be perfect for cracking safes without triggering a single alarm, he is recruited by a shady securities firm and pulled deep into the underworld.

It is a classic “one foot over the line” story — ordinary person, extraordinary ability, extraordinary consequences. Think heist film meets music drama. And honestly? We are very much here for it.

The premise beautifully mirrors the double-edged nature of perfect pitch — the rare auditory ability that underpins the film’s entire premise — making Tuner one of the more intellectually grounded crime thrillers in recent memory.

Why This Film Deserves Your Attention

Daniel Roher, the Grammy-winning documentary director, makes his narrative feature debut here — and festival buzz from Telluride and Toronto suggests he has more than delivered. Pairing him with a cast that includes the rising Leo Woodall, Hollywood legend Jean Reno, and the legendary Dustin Hoffman is the kind of line-up that instantly elevates expectations.

As for Woodall himself, White Lotus and One Day fans already know what he is capable of. This role — quieter, more cerebral, morally complicated — looks like his biggest showcase yet.
