TSMC goes full throttle in the production of 3nm Chips for Apple iPhone 14 Series

Apple’s long-term association with Taiwanese manufacturer TSMC has made it feasible for them to push the boundaries of silicon development. A true testament to their combined success is the production of advanced 3nm chips in H2 of 2022.

Apple is not immune from the ongoing chip shortage, it comes as no surprise that TSMC wants to be prepared for the worst.

According to a new report from DigiTimes claims that TSMC will begin the production of 3nm chips during the second half of 2022. The iPhone 14 Series will launch in the third quarter, which seems to be an ideal timing.

It all depends on if TSMC will face more production issues down the road, 3nm chips are much harder to produce and Apple has already been guaranteed the initial supply of these chips. Due to this, TSMC may not have sufficient chips remaining for its other partners.

Apple needs the 3nm chips not just for the production of its A16 Bionic expected to fuel the iPhone 14 Series. This process may also be used to make chips for Apple’s iPad and Mac lineup. So it is only natural for TSMC to begin production much earlier considering the large product base.

TSMC has also reportedly begun the mass production of N5P chips, or the improved 5nm technology for the iPhone 13 lineup.

TSMC’s latest technology should introduce some performance and power-efficiency improvements when the 15 Bionic officially arrives.

Samsung is also attempting to keep pace with TSMC with its own 3nm node, it has invested $10 billion in a Texas facility.

But the quality of these chips according to industry experts will be inferior in comparison to TSMC’s, but they will be more accessible to companies.
