The world’s largest chip foundry has been on the frontline of success since last few years, enjoying the handsome growth in the industry as well as gaining heavyweight customers like Apple, AMD, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, MediaTek and others.
In 2020, TSMC saw a record-breaking success in terms of revenue with double-digit profits year-on-year, thanks to the strong demand for CPUs, GPUs, notebooks, HPC & server computing. So, last year, the Taiwanese foundry saw record revenue of $82 billion, representing a 23% YoY growth.Â
Counterpoint Research has predicted that TSMC will again see a 12% YoY growth with total revenue of $92 billion. Obviously, this is a prediction, however, considering the immense demand of TSMC’s manufacturing nodes and its new plant in Arizona, TSMC could exceed the industry expectations this year.
They also expect TSMC to post about 13%-16% YoY sales growth in 2021, thanks to the strong demand for 5nm process nodes. Apple is predicted to be the biggest customer for TSMC’s 5nm nodes in 2021 and AMD on the 7nm front.
On the other hand, TSMC’s biggest rival Samsung is expected to drive more order wins from external customers such as Qualcomm and Nvidia. The South Korean giant is expected to post a 20% YoY revenue in 2021 as well, thanks to the strong demand for its 5nm, 7nm and 8nm nodes.
