Evgeny Rylov won the gold medal in the competition in just 51.98 seconds following which his fellow countryman Kliment Kolesnikov won the silver medal after finishing in 52 seconds flat and lastly American swimmer Ryan Murphy came in third after covering the 100 meters in 52.19 seconds and won the bronze medal.

Ever since the Moscow Games back in 1980, this has been the first time in 31 years that an American swimmer failed to secure a gold or silver medal in the men’s 100 backstroke swimming competition.

Prior to this year’s Olympics, Evgeny Rylov had won the bronze medal in the 2019 World Championship in the backstroke 50-meter category. Other than that this year’s silver medalist Kliment Kolesnikov also made his debut this year.

Both the athletes are considered as Russia’s future and present stars and will keep featuring in future competitions.
