From Campus Sweethearts to Strangers: “The Husband” Will Break Your Heart

Few things hurt more than seeing two people who were once madly in love drift into cold silence — and that emotional gut-punch is exactly what KBS2’s upcoming drama “The Husband” is banking on. New stills just dropped, and they’re already stirring up serious feelings.

“The Husband” is a romance thriller that follows a man who becomes entangled in a desperate fight against a ruthless criminal in order to rescue his wife, who is kidnapped just before their divorce. Dark, twisty, and emotionally loaded — this is the kind of drama that grabs you from episode one.

The Couple at the Center of It All

Namkoong Min plays Kang Tae Joo, a neurosurgeon and director of We Are Together Hospital, who decides to divorce his wife amid a troubled marriage, only for her to be kidnapped the very next day. Opposite him, Lee Seol plays Go Se Yoon, Kang Tae Joo’s wife and the chairwoman of We Are Together Hospital, who is suddenly abducted by Noh Man Hee, played by Kim Dae Myeung, the day after her husband brings up divorce.

Then vs. Now: A Love Story Gone Cold

The newest stills are where things get really interesting. In stark contrast to their current cold and distant relationship, the images capture the couple during their university days, from the moment they first exchange glances in the library to sitting together at a vending machine and sharing an umbrella in the rain, showcasing the innocent moments of a young couple in love. soompi

The two actors convincingly capture the emotional gap between their characters’ past and present selves, with Namkoong Min portraying youthful excitement and innocence, while Lee Seol brings out Go Se Yoon’s bright, lovable charm. That contrast is doing a lot of storytelling on its own.

What the Production Team Promises

According to the makers, this isn’t just nostalgic filler. The production team explained that these scenes are a key part of the story, showing how the leads chose each other and how passionately they loved one another, creating a striking contrast with their relationship just before the kidnapping. They added that “The Husband” blends romance filled with love, pain, and regret into the crime thriller genre, and that memories of their happy days will make the events following the kidnapping even more intense.

It’s the classic setup of Romantic thriller storytelling — where love and danger are deeply intertwined, and every flashback raises the emotional stakes.

While counting down to the July premiere, you can stream Namkoong Min’s “My Dearest” or Lee Seol’s “Between Him and Her” on Viki to get a feel for their range.
