Manchester United have been linked with a shocking move for RB Leipzig and former Chelsea striker Timo Werner in the January transfer window. The forward has found regular playing time hard to come by this season, and he has scored only two goals in 13 games, which has left him unsatisfied with his current situation in the Bundesliga.Â
The Red Devils have reportedly inquired about the striker and his availability in January, although no formal offers have been made yet. Alongside United, Real Madrid, Fulham and West Ham United have also been linked with the player.Â
Timo Werner linked with shock Manchester United move in JanuaryÂ
The striker struggled to live up to expectations during his time with Chelsea, scoring only 29 goals in 89 games. He spent two years at Stamford Bridge, and thoroughly impressed with his work rate while helping the Blues win the 2021 Champions League.
But last summer, he was sold back to RB Leipzig, and things haven’t been as they were in the past for the striker. With an abundance of forwards in the team such as Xavi Simons, Benjamin Sesko, Dani Olmo, Lois Openda and Yussuf Poulsen, Werner’s opportunities have been limited.
Some United fans will surely be put off considering the lack of clinical finishing Timo Werner had at Chelsea. But, he could prove to be a valuable addition if Erik Ten Hag can get him back to his best form.
