Some love stories are best told across multiple summers, and Netflix’s This Summer Will Be Different is betting on exactly that. Cameras are officially rolling on Prince Edward Island, and the streamer just dropped the first look at its lead cast along with the full supporting lineup.
This Summer Will Be Different: From Beloved Novel To Netflix Series
The romantic drama is based on Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel of the same name and centers on Lucy, a young woman navigating her 20s and falling for her best friend’s brother — the one person she was never supposed to fall for. The series is led by husband-and-wife showrunners Dane Clark and Linsey Stewart, with Fortune herself serving as an executive producer.
| Role | Actor | Known For |
|---|---|---|
| Lucy Ashby | Sophie Nélisse | Yellowjackets |
| Bridget Clark | Francesca Reale | Stranger Things |
| Felix Clark | Roby Attal | The Haunting of Bly Manor |
A Strong Supporting Cast Rounds It Out
Beyond the three leads, Netflix confirmed a full supporting cast: Jordan Rodrigues as Miles Lam, Jude Wilson as Zach, Natalie Brown as Christine, James Tupper as Ken, Tom Barnett as Peter, and Celia Owen as Joy. Directing duties are split between Karen Maine (Nobody Wants This), Jasmin Mozaffari (Ginny & Georgia), and Fab Filippo (Save Me), though episode assignments haven’t been confirmed yet.
Production is currently underway on Prince Edward Island and in Toronto, with filming expected to run through October 2026. The island’s scenic coastline has long made it a popular backdrop for romantic and coming-of-age stories, giving the series a fitting setting for its “sun-soaked” premise.
