Java Edition players have always had the upper hand when it comes to mods — but one thing Bedrock players were genuinely smug about was Actions & Stuff, the wildly popular Oreville Studios add-on packed with fluid hand animations, 3D item models, and lifelike movement. Now, Java players have a real answer.

Enter Hold My Items (HMI) — the mod that does exactly what the name promises, and then some.

What Is the Hold My Items Mod?

Hold My Items is a mod that makes your hands visible in first person, so you can actually hold items instead of using “psychic levitation powers.” It comes with a wide range of custom animations that can be changed or modified through resource packs. Modrinth

This is the closest Java Edition has come to replicating the Actions & Stuff experience — and the community has noticed. Content creators have called it a “better alternative to Actions & Stuff” for Java Edition, specifically highlighting its immersive first-person animations. TikTok

Minecraft : Key Features at a Glance

Feature	Details
First-person hands	Fully visible while holding any item
Custom animations	Sword swings, pickaxe mining, lantern physics & more
Resource pack support	Animations can be customized or replaced
Platform	Minecraft Java Edition
Mod loader	Fabric
Compatibility	Works client-side, multiplayer friendly

How Does It Compare to Actions & Stuff?

Actions & Stuff is exclusive to Bedrock Edition — Oreville Studios never released a Java version. However, Java players can use resource packs like Fresh Animations and mods like Better Animations to get a similar experience.

Hold My Items goes a step further than most alternatives by tackling first-person hand visibility specifically — something vanilla Java Edition has always lacked. Pair it with Fresh Animations for mob overhauls and you’ve essentially built your own Actions & Stuff stack, for free, with more control. According to Minecraft modding, Java Edition’s open modding ecosystem has consistently allowed the community to push animation and visual fidelity far beyond what vanilla offers — and Hold My Items is the latest proof.
