Warner Bros.’ Horror Development Defies Critics, Claims Top Spot at North American Box Office.
Despite being paid poor reviews, “The Nun II” made a hauntingly triumphant entrance at the North American box office, pulling in an estimated $32.6 million during its opening weekend. The film, disseminated by Warner Bros. and directed by Michael Graves, defied critics and topped the box office charts.
“The Nun II”
In a world where horror pictures often have the uncanny ability to draw audiences despite unfavorable reviews, “The Nun II” was no omission. This sequel to the 2018 horror hit was released in 3,728 theaters and quickly made its company known. Critics, such as AP’s Mark Kennedy, didn’t hold back in their undesirable assessments of the film, with Kennedy giving it a one-star review, remarking that it felt like a flick that would seal the franchise’s fate. However, audiences who flocked to theaters to witness the eerie tale bestowed the film with a C CinemaScore.
The Nun II Box Office Collection

Surprisingly, the sequel also saw success on an international scale, accruing $52.7 million from 69 markets. Competition from “Saw X” & “The Exorcist: Believer”
Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media predictor for Comscore, highlighted the power of a horror universe in generating proceeds. He pointed out that Warner Bros.’s decision to invest in the horror genre appears to be well-paid, as horror films tend to draw dedicated audiences regardless of critical welcome. The horror genre seems poised for a strong showing in the coming months. Films like “A Death in Venice,” set to uncluttered next week, “Saw X” on September 29, and “The Exorcist: Believer” on October 6 are all set to deliver extra spine-chilling thrills to audiences.
Regarding other pictures in North America, “The Nun II” managed to push Denzel Washington’s “Equalizer 3” into another place during its second weekend in theaters. The film, released by Columbia Pictures, added $12.1 million to its domestic wages, bringing its total to $61.9 million in North America besides $107.7 million worldwide.
