The Mummy 4: Brendan Fraser & Rachel Weisz Reunite – Fans Ask “Is It Called The Grand-Mummy?”

After more than two decades, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reuniting for a fourth Mummy movie, and the internet is absolutely losing its mind. The beloved duo who captured hearts in 1999’s The Mummy and 2001’s The Mummy Returns are reportedly in talks to reprise their iconic roles as Rick O’Connell and Evelyn Carnahan.

How Fans Are Reacting

When the news broke, fans on social media were quick to celebrate—and crack jokes. One X user asked if the new film would be called “The Grand-Mummy,” poking fun at the fact that Fraser and Weisz are now in their mid-50s, returning to roles they last played over 20 years ago.

Other fans expressed pure joy, with Instagram comments including “This makes me so so so so happy” and “Thank god, SOMETHING to look forward to in these dark times.” The announcement has become an unexpected beacon of hope for millennial moviegoers who grew up with the original films.

Many fans praised the duo’s chemistry, with one noting “Their return is the heart of the whole endeavor. That genuine charm and chemistry they share is pure movie magic.”

The Dynamic Duo Returns

Fraser starred as the roguish treasure hunter who travels to Egypt in the 1920s with Weisz’s spunky librarian character, only to accidentally awaken a supernaturally powerful high priest. Their chemistry transformed what could have been a simple action movie into a beloved classic that blended adventure, romance, and horror.

Both actors have since won Oscars—Weisz in 2006 for The Constant Gardener and Fraser in 2023 for The Whale. Fraser’s recent career resurgence makes this reunion even more meaningful for fans who’ve supported him through his Hollywood comeback.

Why Radio Silence Is Perfect for This

The directing team of Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are best known for 2019’s Ready or Not and successfully reviving the Scream franchise, proving they know how to breathe new life into beloved properties while respecting what made them special. Their horror-comedy background suggests The Mummy 4 will maintain the fun, adventurous spirit that made the originals work.

For those wondering if the franchise can recapture its magic, Fraser himself addressed this in 2022, saying the ingredient missing from the failed 2017 Tom Cruise reboot “was fun.”

What About The Third Movie?

The new film is reportedly a sequel that will disregard the events of 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which featured Maria Bello replacing Weisz and received poor reviews. This decision has been met with universal approval from fans who consider only the first two films as canon.

The Franchise’s Cultural Impact

The original Mummy grossed over $422.5 million worldwide and launched a franchise that included The Scorpion King prequel featuring Dwayne Johnson, an animated series, and a popular ride at Universal Studios Hollywood. The films defined adventure cinema for a generation and remain endlessly rewatchable.

The reunion news has sparked viral discussions across social media, with many celebrating the film’s inclusive appeal. Fans have long joked that The Mummy was a “bisexual awakening” film, thanks to the undeniable charm of both Fraser and Weisz. According to Universal Pictures’ official site, the studio has remained tight-lipped about official confirmation.
