‘The Kardashians’ Season 5 Trailer: Emergency Fetal Surgery for Kourtney As Kim and Khloe Kardashian Clash

The Kardashian-Jenners are pulling no punches in the trailer for Season Five of “The Kardashians.”

The forthcoming installment of their Hulu series, shot in late 2023, sheds light on the pregnancy challenges faced by Kourtney Kardashian Barker with her six-month-old son, Rocky.

The cameras captured the tense moment when Kourtney confided in her mother, Kris Jenner, over FaceTime about her need for emergency surgery.

Sneak Peek: Dynamics Unveiled in “The Kardashians” Season 5 Trailer

The opening scene of the official trailer for “The Kardashians” on Hulu hints at more of the familiar dynamics between the sisters in Season 5. With a composed yet irritated demeanor, Kendall Jenner faces the camera to express her frustration at waiting for her sister, Kylie Jenner, who’s occupied with a photo shoot, for over an hour. As Kylie catches wind of her sister’s complaint upon opening the car door, she responds with her trademark high-pitched retort, typically reserved for moments of playful defiance: “Whateverrrrr! It’s fashion week!”

Kendall and Kylie, known as the youngest duo in the family, have always shared a close bond, and it appears that this season will showcase them together in a professional setting as they navigate Paris fashion week.

Kim Kardashian reminds viewers that in the previous season, the family had made a pledge to “take it easy,” but Khloé Kardashian, with her characteristic wit, points out that they clearly haven’t. Serving as the moral compass within the family, Khloé explains to the camera that while everyone else is busy with their fashion week commitments, someone needs to be there for their sister, Kourtney Kardashian, who was pregnant with her child with husband Travis Barker at the time.

Khloé also cites the responsibility of looking after the family’s collective brood of children as her reason for not participating in the fashion week festivities. It appears that this season, tensions will arise between Kim and Khloé over Khloé’s perceived judgmental attitude towards her sister’s hectic work schedule.

Kourtney and Travis will offer viewers a glimpse into their intimate world, inviting the cameras to capture their special moments together as they anticipate the arrival of baby Rocky. Kourtney, expanding her family of three children with ex-partner Scott Disick, is joining forces with Travis, who has three children from prior relationships. Viewers who keep up with the sisters on social media or stay informed through news outlets may already be aware that Kourtney’s pregnancy was fraught with risks, culminating in an emergency fetal surgery that prompted Travis to leave his band, Blink-182’s reunion tour, to be by her side.

Kendall is eager to dispel any notions that she’s not a fun-loving person, despite her frequent discussions about her anxieties on camera. She acknowledges watching the show and recognizing her tendency to revisit the same topics repeatedly. While it would greatly benefit the series if Kendall demonstrated her fun side instead of merely talking about it, it appears that viewers can anticipate another season of curated moments highlighting Kendall and Kylie’s camaraderie during their scheduled activities, rather than delving into meaningful aspects of their personal or professional lives.

Behind the Scenes of “The Kardashians”: Family Health Scares and Drama Unfold

“This is really crazy, so I just want Kourtney to be okay,” says an emotional Kris to the camera.

In her confessional, Kourtney delves into the alarming situation, with cameras capturing her at the hospital. “I had to undergo fetal surgery, which was terrifying,” she explains.

As depicted in the trailer, Kourtney wasn’t the only family member facing a medical scare. “I had my scan… they found a cyst and a small tumor,” Kris informs her children, prompting Kylie Jenner to break down in tears.

Amidst updates on the Kardashian-Jenners’ more serious moments, drama is still a staple of “The Kardashians.” This time, Khloé Kardashian finds herself at odds with both Kim and Kourtney.

When Kris inquires if Kim has discussed an undisclosed situation with Khloé, Kim responds, “No, she’s just very judgmental.” Kim also notes that with Khloé’s ex Tristan Thompson out of the picture, her sister could “be free to go out and have fun.”

In the trailer, Kim, who recently starred in American Horror Story: Delicate and is collaborating with Ryan Murphy on an upcoming legal drama, declares she’s in her “actress era.”

The timing couldn’t be more fitting, as the trailer’s debut aligns with the announcement of Kim’s daughter, North West, joining the cast of Disney’s The Lion King 30th Anniversary – A Live-to-Film Concert Event at The Hollywood Bowl, set to air on Disney+. Scheduled performances are on May 24 and 25.

Joining a stellar lineup including Nathan Lane, Billy Eichner, Bradley Gibson, Ernie Sabella, Jason Weaver, Jeremy Irons, Jennifer Hudson, Heather Headley, and Lebo M., the 10-year-old North West takes the stage.

Season five of The Kardashians premieres on May 23 on Hulu in the U.S, Disney+ internationally, and Star+ in Latin America, with subsequent episodes airing every Thursday.

The logline sets the tone: “Just when you think life can’t get any more hectic in the Kardashian Jenner family, they kick it into high gear. From the silver screen to family joys, the clan continues to surpass expectations in all their ventures. Cameras capture the journey as Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall, and Kylie navigate their complex sisterly dynamics, all while under the watchful eye of their beloved matriarch, Kris.”

Ben Winston, a partner at Fulwell 73, serves as executive producer alongside Emma Conway and Elizabeth Jones, with Danielle King as showrunner and executive producer. Kris, Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall, and Kylie also hold executive producer credits.
