After the Asia Cup, the Indian team will play in the T20 World Cup in October 2022. The selectors and team management aren’t really sure about Jasprit Bumrah‘s fitness. Bumrah and Harshal Patel have been approached for an NCA Fitness Test.
“There is few days for squad submission. We need fitness updates on Jasprit and Harshal. So, once everything is there, we will announce the squad. Jasprit is expected to be at the NCA this week for injury assessment. We will know more then,”– a selection committee member told InsideSport
Bumrah hasn’t played after the England tour in July due to a back injury. Harshal Patel is also recovering from a rib injury.
Both have reached NCA for the fitness assessment. As per sources at NCA, Harshal Patel is ready for the comeback but the same cannot be said about Jaspreet Bumrah.
Patel has started bowling but Bumrah still needs some time before he starts bowling again. Skipper Rohit Sharma and Coach Rahul Dravid are waiting for final fitness report on Bumrah.
“Bumrah has not been declared fit yet. He is going to be at the NCA this week before the selection. The World Cup is still over a month away. Therefore, his selection will happen considering that,” a BCCI source told Times Of India.
The T20 World Cup submission is September 16 and the selection meeting will be taking place the same day.
Jadeja had right knee surgery and got completely ruled out of the T20 World Cup. On the other hand, Harshal’s recovery loos good and he could make a comeback for Australia and South Africa series at home.
Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury is expected to return to be determined. Harshal Patel is expected to make a return for the Australia series.
Teams like England, Australia, and South Africa have chosen their World Cup squads. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed that 90% of the squad is ready but injuries have detailed plans. Mohammad Shami is the standby player for Jasprit Bumrah. Before the selectors take a final decision, they selectors need to have a clear idea about Bumrah’s injury. Harshal Patel is likely to return for the Australia and South Africa series, at the moment he’s undergoing rehab for rib injury.
