The Flash has a new live-action look, and it didn’t come from James Gunn’s DCU. It came from a Big Bang Theory spin-off. A one-off episode of an HBO Max sitcom has handed fans one of the most page-accurate superhero costumes in years.

The Episode
Stuart and his multiverse-hopping crew land inside the pages of DC Comics and look for superhero help. Green Lantern was off the table to avoid clashing with Lanterns, so Jay Garrick is the only DC hero who truly appears.
The episode plays it for laughs. Garrick’s fight with Batman villain Mr. Freeze happens largely off screen and is described by Stuart, a handy way to protect the sitcom’s budget. Fans also learn that this Flash is married to Mayim Bialik’s Amy Farrah Fowler. He suits up in his hidden closet and helps the team escape aboard the Cosmic Treadmill.

Why the Suit Works?
The costume has been praised for its classic accuracy. It has blue trousers, a skin-tight red top with a lightning symbol, a winged helmet and vibrant red boots, straight from Golden Age comics. Ridings called the experience “surreal” and a “dream come true.”
It’s also a contrast to Garrick’s earlier appearances:
| Appearance | Look |
|---|---|
| The CW’s The Flash (Season 2) | Leather costume with much of the color stripped away, criticized for looking like a biker |
| 2023’s The Flash movie | A colorless cameo recognizable by the helmet |
| HBO Max sitcom | Fully colorful, comic-accurate suit |
Why Hasn’t the DCU Introduced Its Flash?
This is the bigger story. The DCU still has no sign of Batman, Wonder Woman or The Flash, and there’s no confirmed project for the Scarlet Speedster. The last Flash movie was one of Hollywood’s biggest flops, and the nine-season CW series may feel too fresh for an HBO show.
Gunn recently shut down rumors that Matthew Lillard plays Barry Allen in Man of Tomorrow. The article suggests the best chance for a Flash appearance is a team-up project, such as the Teen Titans or a Justice League reboot. For background, see Flash (comics) on Wikipedia.
