There’s a particular kind of magic that happens when a comedy drama’s cast genuinely enjoys working together — it bleeds into every frame, every expression, every beat of timing. The new behind-the-scenes footage from Absolute Value of Romance captures exactly that, and it’s as charming behind the camera as the drama presumably is in front of it.

What the Behind-the-Scenes Footage Shows
In the new behind-the-scenes video, Kim Hyang Gi and Cha Hak Yeon rehearse their movements to portray Ga Wu Su (Cha Hak Yeon) stealing a look at Yeo Eui Ju’s (Kim Hyang Gi) laptop. The two suggest comical ideas and give it their all — even nearly falling down — to create a hilarious scene.
The energy on set is immediately infectious. These aren’t two actors mechanically going through choreography — they’re actively riffing, pitching ideas, and clearly invested in making each other laugh as much as making the audience laugh.
In another scene featuring Cha Hak Yeon, Kim Jae Hyun, Sohn Jeong Hyuck, and Kim Dong Gyu, the four have genuine trouble holding in their laughter. Kim Jae Hyun even adds an ad-lib to make the scene more realistic and funny.
Ad-libs in K-drama making-of videos are always a good sign — it means the cast has found the authentic heartbeat of their characters well enough to improvise inside them.
The director himself wondered aloud whether Yeo Eui Ju could realistically write her novel with Ga Wu Su watching over her, to which Cha Hak Yeon playfully responded that his character wouldn’t mind watching her write at all. Throughout filming, the cast couldn’t help but laugh at how their characters were being portrayed, creating a genuinely light-hearted atmosphere on set. soompi
That kind of organic chemistry between leads — where even the director is drawn into the banter — is what elevates a good romantic comedy into a genuinely warm-hearted one.
Why This Behind-the-Scenes Matters
Behind-the-scenes content for K-dramas is always revealing, but this one in particular signals something important: the comedy in Absolute Value of Romance isn’t just scripted — it’s lived. When Cha Hak Yeon almost falls trying to perfect a sneaky laptop-stealing move, and the whole set erupts, that’s not performance. That’s a cast that has found something genuinely funny about their story and wants to do it justice.
For a Friday evening slot, this kind of breezy, warm creative energy is exactly what viewers are looking for at the end of a long week.
