The England vs India fifth test that was supposed to take place at Old Trafford got cancelled last month due to outbreak of covid in the Indian camp. Consequently, there were doubts about how the series would go forward as both teams have a packed schedule.
However, the ECB and BCCI have amicably agreed that the postponed 5th test will be played on 1st July 2021 at Edgbaston.
Following the 5th test, the Indian side will play a three match T20 and three match ODi’s. After this announcement, the English cricket board expressed their delight. “We are very pleased that we have reached an agreement with BCCI to creating a fitting end to what has been a brilliant series so far,”
ECB ensures that they will manage the workload of players after the rescheduling of the Fifth Test between England and India
As soon as this announcement was made the English Cricket Board expressed their gratitude towards all the venues for helping them. They also thanked the South African board for allowing to make them changes.
Owing to the fact that Old Trafford will be the venue for the second test that will be played between England and South Africa in October.
“I’m very grateful to all the venues involved for the cooperation they’ve shown in allowing us to reschedule this match. I’d also like to thank Cricket South Africa for their support and understanding to allow these changes to be possible.“
“We would like to apologise again to fans for the disruption and disappointment of September events. We know it was a day that so many had planned long in advance.” The ECB also understands that adding this fixture would result in players facing fatigue. However, they have ensured that they will manage the workload of the players in an efficient manner.
“We recognise that accommodating this extra match means a tighter schedule for the white ball series. We will continue to manage our players’ welfare and workloads through next year while we also continue to seek the optimum schedule for fans, players and our partners across the game.”
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah is delighted as the England vs India series will have a proper outcome
All the cricket fans were concerned after the England vs India series ended in a cliffhanger. However, this announcement will certainly bring joy to the faces of many fans. Consequently, BCCI secretary Jay Shah also expressed his happiness after the fifth test was rescheduled.
“I am delighted that the England-India Test series will now have its rightful conclusion. The four-Test matches were riveting, and we needed a fitting finale.”
The BCCI also released a statement after both the board agreed amicably. “The BCCI recognizes and respects the traditional form of the game and is also mindful of its role and obligations towards fellow Board Members. In the last two months, both BCCI and the ECB have been engaged in discussions and our efforts were aimed at finding a suitable window. I thank the ECB for their understanding and patience in finding an amicable solution.”
