After a tight game of 90 minutes, the famous Calcutta Derby featuring both East Bengal FC & Mohun Bagan ends up with a 2-2 draw
Hello and welcome to Technosport’s coverage of the Calcutta Football League derby clash between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.
What a thrilling encounter this turned out to be as Bagan took an early lead through derby debutant Pintu Mahata and Henry Kisekka made it 2-0 in the opening 30 minutes. East Bengal’s biggest signing of the season world cupper Johnny Acosta scored his first goal for the club in the 47th minute and Laldanmawia Ralte found the equalizer 15 minutes later to finish it unsettled.
An evenly distributed match saw Mohun Bagan scoring 2 goals in the first half as they dominated throughout. Right at the end of halftime, the Red & Gold came back in through Acosta’s header from Shilton Paul’s mistake.
While in the first half Bagan was dominant throughout, the second half was more cherishable for the Red & Gold crowds.

Beginning of the second half, Mehetab Hussain’s knee injury crumbled Shankarlal’s plans as he had to be replaced. It was sad for the Bagan side as they failed to hold up their lead.
Nevertheless, Bagan keeps up their streak of remaining unbeaten in their last seven encounters against East Bengal. Whereas its sad for the Red & Golds as their signing of world-class defender also could not rescue them from conceiving goals.
Both teams tried hard for the winning this match but neither team was able to find it and had to settle for a point each. Both teams are currently on 20 points each and EB will top the table due to goal difference.
