I’d like to call on all the Terminator fans. In Nacon’s upcoming title, Terminator: Survivors you’re going to dive into a terrifying post-apocalyptic world.
You’ll be thrown into the wasteland years after Judgment Day in this open-world adventure survival game, offering a unique perspective on the war against Skynet.
A World Reeling from Judgment Day
It’s 2009, that’s the year. Skynet launched its overwhelming nuclear assault in 2005, leaving a world shattered by radiation and societal collapse.
The long range communication systems have been knocked out, replacing them with tiny and sometimes conflicting communities that struggle to keep themselves alive. In this desolate landscape, where resources are limited and the past remains shrouded in mystery, players take on the role of an isolated survivor.
Unlike the iconic films where Sarah Connor fights to prevent Judgment Day, Terminator: Survivors explores the aftermath, a period largely unseen in the Terminator franchise.
Hunted by a Persistent Terminator
Terminator: Survivors ups the ante with a single, relentless T-800 stalking you throughout the game. This design choice is rooted in wisdom consistency and creating a tense atmosphere. Their production capabilities were not at their peak in the early days of Skynet’s dominance. The lone T-800 represents Skynet’s unwavering pursuit, a constant reminder of the ever-present threat.
Nacon explains, “We aimed to capture the essence of the first two films, where the looming threat of an unstoppable machine instilled a sense of dread and urgency.” By featuring a single T-800, players experience the same fear and desperation as Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese. A layer of tension is added to this constant pressure, and it’ll make you restless.
Built with Unreal Engine 5 and Offering Offline Play
Terminator: Survivors is built on the powerful Unreal Engine 5, promising striking visuals that bring the post-apocalyptic world to life. Whether you’re searching for resources in ruined cities or navigating irradiated wastelands, the game’s environment will undoubtedly be immersive.
Adding to the replay ability, Terminator: Survivors will be fully playable offline. While a four-player co-op mode exists, the option to go it alone and face the T-800 head-on is a welcome addition for those seeking a solitary survival experience.
Early Access and Beyond: Terminator: Survivors
Terminator: Survivors is slated for a Steam Early Access launch on October 24th, 2023. This allows players to jump in early and experience the game while it’s still under development. While console versions for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 are confirmed, details regarding early access availability on these platforms are yet to be revealed.
A Fresh Look at the Terminator Universe
Terminator: Survivors offers a unique perspective on the Terminator universe. By focusing on the immediate aftermath of Judgment Day and the relentless pursuit by a single T-800, the game promises a tense and suspenseful experience.
With its offline playability, Unreal Engine 5 visuals, and upcoming early access launch, Terminator: Survivors is definitely a title to keep an eye on for any Terminator fan or those seeking a challenging post-apocalyptic adventure.
