Just weeks after players made an emotional public plea to save their club, Jamshedpur FC’s story has taken a dramatic turn. Tata Steel has agreed to hand over its entire 100% stake in the ISL franchise to Goa’s Churchill Brothers Sports Club — not for crores, but for a symbolic ₹100.

How the Deal Came Together

Approved by Tata Steel’s Committee of Directors on August 14, the agreement transfers all 4.08 crore equity shares in Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited (JFSPL) to Churchill Brothers. The move comes after Jamshedpur FC formally withdrew from the ISL on July 31, hours after missing the participation fee deadline, prompting players to publicly appeal to Tata Group’s leadership not to let the club fold.

A Fresh Start for the Players

Churchill Brothers, a club with nearly four decades of footballing legacy in Goa and two I-League titles to their name, will take over all player and coaching contracts from September 2026 — meaning the players who appealed for a lifeline will continue their professional careers, just under a new banner.

Tata’s Continued Commitment to Grassroots

While stepping away from top-flight ownership, Tata Steel confirmed it will keep investing in youth development through the Tata Football Academy, which has produced over 150 national team players and 26 captains since 1987, alongside continued upkeep of Jamshedpur’s sporting infrastructure.
