Tata Motors will follow Suzuki for price hike as automakers prepare BS6 Phase 2

The Indian carmaker will follow Maruti Suzuki and other manufacturers who prepare themselves for 2023 and the updates associated with that. As we all know, next year the second phase of BS6 will come with a self-diagnostic device fitted inside to monitor the real-time emission levels, which will eventually increase the costs of these new-age vehicles. This hike by Tata Motors follows the recent hike they did last month.

Tata Motors to make price hikes as automakers prepare BS6 Phase 2

As PTI reports, Tata Motors will start increasing the prices of its existing cars right from next month onwards to make its models compliant with the stricter emission norms the Indian government will lay out from 2023 onwards. The BS6 Phase 2 will kick in from April 1st onwards and Tata Motors is already preparing for this and making each car complaint will be tougher as there will be new safety norms as well.

When PTI asked Tata Motors Managing Director – Passenger Vehicle and Electric Vehicles Shailesh Chandra regarding this price hike, he said the price revision would also offset the impact of commodity prices, which have remained high for the most part of the year.

“The regulatory change will have its impact on the cost. Even the real impact of softening of commodity prices is only going to come from next quarter and we still have the residual impact of the commodity escalation that we have seen during the year,” Chandra said.

So, not just Tata Motors, all the car brands will be making some price hikes to comply with new safety and BS6 Phase 2 norms, you can expect at least 5-10% price hikes by March 2023 itself. Now, even if you are looking to buy a new car and want to book, you might have to pay some extra bucks for it anyways.
