Tammy Abraham set to complete his Roma transfer soon

Tammy Abraham has signed the paperwork to make the transfer to Roma during the night, and he is expected to be in the Italian capital today to complete his switch to Serie A.

Roma are paying Chelsea a sum worth €40 million plus add-ons, which will be paid in instalments. The striker has agreed on a five-year deal with Roma and will receive a salary worth €4-5 million per season. Jose Mourinho reached out to him personally over the last few days and convinced him to join the Portuguese tactician at his new club.

With Edin Dzeko moving to Inter Milan, Abraham will be the undisputed starter under Mourinho. He will also be the replacement for the Bosnian, and is an exciting young talent for the Special One to work with. Chelsea recognise this talent, and have hence, included a buyback clause in his contract worth €80 million.

The buyback clause will be valid from June 2023, and there is no loan deal involved for the player’s transfer. Abraham becomes yet another Chelsea player to make the move to Italy this summer, after Olivier Giroud and Fikayo Tomori’s transfer to Milan.

The former England international fell out of favour with the arrival of Thomas Tuchel at the club, and has struggled for game time under the German. With Chelsea signing Romelu Lukaku as the new man to lead their attack, Abraham will have much better opportunities to get the vital minutes in Italy.
