As we inch closer to 2025, GTA 6 is quickly becoming the proverbial elephant in the room, a topic of discussion too big for anyone involved in the video game industry to ignore. Its launch, slated for next fall, is expected to take over the gaming universe.

Take-Two, Rockstar‘s parent company, is keen to duplicate the monumental success of Grand Theft Auto 5, which wound up being the second best-selling game ever, with more than 200 million copies sold. CEO Strauss Zelnick recently shared his excitement about GTA 6, offering a glimpse of what fans can expect: “I think it’ll be extraordinary and worth waiting for.”

Take-Two CEO Teases GTA 6: ‘Extraordinary’ and Worth the Wait, Fans Will Be Surprised

Rockstar also receives feedback from the Grand Theft Auto community, and Zelnick stated that hearing what players have to say helps shape the way that developer handles the game. But he teased that GTA 6 will have myriad elements and features that fans might not have even thought of. Most successful games are ones you’ve never seen before; ones that you didn’t think were going to come from there, ones that are different, new ideas.

The GTA 6 team is aiming “bigger and better” than what fans were expecting, and hopefully more thrilling and beautiful than fans would have believed. Reflecting on GTA 5 and GTA Online, Zelnick said Take-Two never anticipated the size and scale that the game and, especially, its online component would reach. The virtual currency was an afterthought, added late in development—GTA Online had been designed without any micro-transactions.

The shift to online mode came with its own set of issues when it launched, with a lot of bugs and troubles as well. Despite these bumps in the road, GTA Online turned out to be a phenomenal success and still does well to this day, just like GTA 5, which sold 205 million copies (well beyond anything Take-Two thought possible).
