World War Z Sequel: Edward Berger Steps Behind the Camera
Edward Berger, the filmmaker behind All Quiet on the Western Front and Conclave, has signed on to direct from a script by Dennis Kelly, the Tony-winning writer behind Matilda the Musical. Plot details remain firmly under wraps, but the pairing itself is significant — Berger and Pitt recently wrapped The Riders for A24, and sources say that collaboration went so well Pitt began pitching him on World War Z 2 during the shoot itself.
A Decade-Long Wait Finally Pays Off
The original 2013 film, based on Max Brooks’ bestselling novel World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, grossed over $540 million worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing zombie film ever made. A sequel had been in development on and off for years, including a version that nearly happened with David Fincher before budget issues forced him out in 2019.

What Pushed It Forward Now
Paramount’s new leadership under Skydance made the sequel a top priority, with the project officially confirmed as in active development at CinemaCon earlier this year.
