Bengaluru, India – Tata Elxsi, a technology services firm, and advanced air mobility company Sarla Aviation have formalized a collaboration to advance the development of Shunya, Sarla Aviation’s electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The partnership is set to accelerate the Shunya platform’s development, testing, and certification process.
Under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Tata Elxsi will contribute engineering support across critical systems including avionics, flight control systems, software integration, testing, verification, validation, and certification. The engagement also encompasses potential support for sensor-fusion-based navigation software, industrial and structural design, and airworthiness test support. Sarla Aviation will retain leadership for the overall design, development, and type certification of the Shunya platform.

The Shunya aircraft is designed as a six-seater plus one pilot eVTOL, intended for flight operations exceeding a 300-kilometer range. It integrates vertical take-off and landing capabilities with fixed-wing cruise efficiency, enabling runway-independent operations and enhanced propulsion efficiency. This initiative marks a significant step in the growing involvement of Indian aerospace companies in next-generation aircraft and advanced air mobility platforms.
