Why have superapps failed in India?: Though the concept of a super-app is not new, the Indian market has yet to perfect the algorithm. A super-app is a mobile or web application that can perform several functions, transforming it into an all-encompassing online commerce and communication platform.

Globally, WeChat in China, Go-Jek in Indonesia, and Kakao in South Korea, to name a few, have broken the formula. But lets see why this formula is not working in our own country. Indian consumers have plenty of options: Because of the quick, deep, and low cost of data penetration, they seek ‘best of breed’ solutions, which are difficult to supply in a single app across categories.

As we already know, Paytm came first in the market and is one the most widely used super-apps in the country. I personaly use Paytm for a lot of things such as payments, booking my bus and flight tickets, booking movie tickets, and so on.

India name 18-man squad for Asian Games 2023 with Sunil Chhetri included

India have named their 18-man squad for the upcoming Asian Games to be played in Hangzhou, China. The matches will be played from 19 September, and the Blue Tigers will return to the competition after a gap of nine years.

Indian captain Sunil Chhetri has been named as one of the players over 23, and will be leading the youngsters during the upcoming games. ISL clubs were reluctant to release their players for national team duty, which led to some strongly worded public comments from head coach Igor Stimac.

Senior players like Sandesh Jhingan and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu have not been called up since their clubs could not find an adequate replacement.

“It has been a hectic time for Indian football season this time. We have a tight schedule within a short period of time that was not easy to manage,” AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey said.

“There have been too many things happening, both at the domestic and the international level, involving India’s National Teams, as well as the ISL clubs. While the Senior National Men’s Team successfully completed playing a series of matches, they are also awaiting to play the Asian Games, followed by Merdeka Cup, World Cup Qualifiers, and the AFC Asian Cup,” he added.

India have been drawn in the same group with China, Bangladesh, and Myanmar and will face the hosts in their opening fixture on September 19. They will be expected to qualify for the knockout stages, being the second best ranked team behind China.

Baichung Bhutia responds to recent Igor Stimac astrology story

Former Indian captain Baichung Bhutia has responded to the recent report that current Indian head coach Igor Stimac consulted astrologers to select his team before the 2022 Asian Games Qualifiers. India eventually finished at the top of their group in spite of losing the first game to Jordan.

The AIFF has also issued a show-cause to the coach for his comments on players not being released for national team duty. It is apparently a breach of contract for Stimac, which has been followed by the recent report.

“This is not a new thing. In fact, Brazilian coach (Luiz Felipe) Scolari used to follow such things a lot. Many world-renowned coaches, especially African, American, and European coaches, used to follow this. South American and African countries also follow it a lot. They follow lots of astrologers. Scolari is one of the biggest examples. He decides the teams and all via astrologers,” Bhaichung told India Today.

“In African football, there is a spiritual thing like hudo. Before the match, a lot of people do and follow lots of spiritual things.

“In Kolkata football as well, it (superstitions) is highly followed. Coaches Khalid Jamal and Subhash Bhowmick used to keep flowers at opponents’ goalposts,” he added.

“It is up to the individual coach. More than you and me, a coach’s job is important. Consult a bus driver or astrologer for the sake of the team.

“I am not a believer in astrologers, but many people believe that. The most important thing to note is, if he does anything wrong, he will be sacked.

“If you look at the performance of Stimac… If he consults an astrologer and does well then what is wrong with it? Obviously, it will not give you a win,” he added.

Igor Stimac helped India win the Intercontinental Cup this year, as well as the SAFF Championship. Now, they will be weakened for the Asian Games with clubs unwilling to release their star players since the dates of the ISL are coincide with the Asian Games.

Igor Stimac took help of astrologer for team selection in 2022 Asian Games Qualifiers

Indian head coach Igor Stimac reportedly took the guidance of an astrologer to select the teams for the Asian Games Qualifiers last summer. The Blue Tigers lost to Jordan but defeated Cambodia, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong in three successive games to finish at the top of their group and qualify for Asian Games.

The AIFF secretary general at the time, Kushal Das, introduced Stimac to Bhupesh Sharma, the astrologer. He was paid between Rs 12-15 lakhs for his services over two months. There were over 100 messages exchanged between Igor Stimac and Sharma, with the astrologer influencing his team selection for the important games.

Stimac said that Sharma “was recommended to me and I was convinced (by others) that I have to check upon his possible effects in sports.”

However, the clubs have decided against this and his public comments have caused the board to issue him a show-cause.

“I didn’t, pardon my language now, come to India to lick a**es,” he told The Indian Express. “I came to India to help. If you want my help, I need to tell you the truth. You can face it, you can help me to overcome the problems or you can tell me we’re not going to change anything, please coach go home, and I will go home happily and we’re going to stay friends.”
