  • Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India talks about the gaming industry in 2020

Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India talks about the gaming industry in 2020

The year 2020 has been a significant letdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but due to that, we have learned how gaming can transform our life. Obviously, there’s nothing better than playing physically, but if you do not have time to place it, videos games are a perfect match.

eSports has grown in the country in leaps and bounds since the last few years, India now has a strong position in the world for eSports. In 2020, we saw a massive surge in eSports and the gaming industry as a whole. As we bid farewell to 2020, Lokesh Suji, Director of Esports Federation of India, has talked about the year that passed and what he expects 2021 to give us:

Esports & Gaming industry did in 2020:“We saw a boom in digital entertainment in India with the COVID-19 uncertainties and the lockdown in place in most of 2020, both esports & video gaming playing a key role. With the pandemic continuing and active sports hit mostly, the penetration of esports has only depended and efforts are being made to make it reach to more and more individuals across the country by various stakeholders in the esports community. However, despite all the challenges that the world has faced, the cumulative growth of the esports industry has been unprecedented and phenomenal.”

What are the expectations in 2021:

“Though the video games industry is recognized as an industry in India, we hope and look forward to esports being recognition in the same way soon. While esports is now going to be a medal event at the Asian Games 2022 as well as few other Asian Championship events, it is a must that esports needs to be recognized by the Ministry of Sports as a “Sport”. We mustn’t club it with Online Gaming, Fantasy, Teen Patti, Poker, Rummy and brand it as a source of betting or gambling. Esports is like any other sporting discipline sports where India has a chance to win medals and bring glory to the country. We need to recognise and regulate it as any other sport.

Am confident that these developments will also propel more brands to invest and associate with the Esports Eco-system and it is an opportune time for Indian Esports Industry to take a quantum leap economically as well as a new avenue in the sports genre.”

Cyberpunk 2077 gets eight million preorders, generating as much as $500 million

Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most anticipated games of all time, has finally been launched. It seems that the game has delivered upon its promise. Soon after the start, the game has attracted several users to the world of Night City. According to sources, the game has already bagged numerous awards and collecting mostly high praise from reviewers.

But that’s not all; the game is bringing the expected revenue to the game developers. CD PROJECT RED announced that it has received over eight million preorders for the title. Analysts suggest that the company will make over US$500 million in revenue over this preorder.

Reports indicate that the game has made over 50 million dollars from Steam alone. According to the report released by CP PROJECT RED, the preorders profit has been split 41% for consoles and 59% for PC. Gamers have been overwhelmingly choosing digital downloading over purchasing a physical copy of Cyberpunk 2077, with digital distribution accounting for 74% compared to 26% for physical distribution.

The physical sale of the game has also seen fantastic deals. The game’s physical container includes a limited edition box that houses an art book, a steel book, various stickers and patches, a keychain, postcards, a compendium and guide, and the game itself, of course. It also contains the map to Night City, which could come in handy, and the striking statue of Cyberpunk 2077‘s main character, V, in a dramatic action pose.

The game that took eight years in the making is finally available to purchase from an offline store and download digitally. The Collector’s Edition costs a hefty US$249.99, but hardcore fans will indeed find the price much more reasonable.

  • How Investment Is Transforming Indian Gaming

How Investment Is Transforming Indian Gaming

The gaming industry is thriving – so it’s no surprise that investors all over the world are keen to invest their money in this rapidly-growing sector. With total global revenue of $159 billion in 2020, some analysts believe that gaming could be worth over $200 billion in just three years’ time. This means that the potential returns for savvy investors who want to cash in on this growth are huge.

In India, this is certainly proving to be the case. The country’s gaming industry has attracted vast amounts of investment over the last few years, as developers are rushing to meet the soaring demand for new games and gaming platforms.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at how investment is transforming the world of Indian gaming. From which companies are investing the funds to how this capital is being used, read on to find out more about this booming industry today.

How Much Money Has Been Invested?

According to a report by the company Maple Capital Investors, venture capitalist firms (VCs) have invested around $350 million into the Indian gaming industry between 2014 and the first few months of 2020. And that’s not the end of the matter. The Managing Director of Maple Capital Investors, Pankaj Karna, said that he expected the level of investment to “at least double” in the next couple of years.

    Where Is the Money Going?

Whether we’re searching for our new favourite games on sites such as indiaslots.com or loading the latest video game on our mobiles, there’s never been more choice when it comes to gaming. Part of this is due to the diversity of different funding opportunities. Some of the most noticeable Indian gaming investments over the last few years include:

    ·         Tencent and Steadview Capital invested $100 million into Dream11, an Indian fantasy sports platform

    ·         Sequoia and Time’s Internets invested $41 million into the mobile e-sports app Mobile Premier League

    ·         One97 and AG Holdings invested $20 million into Paytm Games, an all-in-one online gaming destination

    How Has the Industry Changed?

With more money being pumped into the Indian gaming industry, let’s explore how the sector has changed as a result.

One of the most striking changes is the fact that it’s enabled gaming to become big business. There are now more than 400 gaming start-ups in India, all of which have been able to secure at least basic funding. The fact that so many entrepreneurs are choosing to start companies in the gaming space is incredibly telling, showing that the sector is considered a strong money-maker by potential business owners.

Another key way in which investment is transforming Indian gaming is that it’s funding increasingly niche areas of the sector. In the report from Maple Capital Investors, the company noted that the fantasy sports landscape has been completely revolutionised by new levels of investment.

In fact, there were around seven times more fantasy sports operators in 2018 than they were in 2016, while the number of users increased by 25 times between June 2016 and February 2019!

Whether you’re a devoted gaming fan with all the latest equipment or a casual dabbler who prefers to play games on the go, it’s clear that almost every aspect of Indian gaming is being transformed by investment.

  • How India Gave Dice and Playing Cards to the World

How India Gave Dice and Playing Cards to the World

India is famous for a number of very famous exports to the world including everything from the curries that are enjoyed everywhere from Britain to Australia to that well-known pastime of the very rich, polo. But, while these are two of the country’s highest-profile contributions to global culture, there are two other Indian inventions that are arguably enjoyed by many more people every day and in virtually every country of the world.

The first of these is the playing card. While there are many claims about the origin of these, with a popular theory that they were first used in the 9th century in China, India has a very strong claim to have preceded this.

The oldest examples were used to play a game called Krida-Patram. Because they were first used long before printing had been invented, they were made from fabric. Instead of the four suits that we have today, the oldest versions of the cards were decorated with scenes from the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. Centuries later, they evolved into Ganjifa cards, and games using them were played in many of the country’s royal courts. By then, cards had become hand-painted on a variety of materials and were something of a status symbol with decorations ranging from tortoiseshell to pearls and precious gems.

Today, the most popular card games in India have evolved to be ones like Teen Patti and Satte Pa Satta. The former is like the English game of 3 Card Brag which is a simplified form of poker in which players bet over who has the best hand. Satte Pa Satta, on the other hand, is similar to a game of Patience in which an unlimited number of players can participate.

Indian card games are really rather popular in the country and indeed, there is a whole range of popular Indian online casinos which offer plenty such games, such as blackjack, baccarat and even poker. But reliable reviews indicate that the range is growing to include games popular in India. For the time being, that’s namely Teen Patti and Andar Bahaar, but with the operators in India and elsewhere having been so quick to add these to their listings suggests we could well see other popular Indian choices pop up in the near future.

How India Gave Dice and Playing Cards to the World

As is the case with playing cards, the history of dice is a disputed one. But, again, India has a strong claim to make about their invention. They are mentioned in the Reg Vida as well as in the list of games acknowledged by the Great Buddha. The earliest Indian dice differed in that they were oblong shapes rather than the more traditional cubes. It is these dice that are used to play the game Passa, still very popular today. They only have the numbers 1, 3, 4 and 6 on them and the game consists of betting on which double will be thrown. Because each die only has four numbers on it compared with the traditional six, a double is a more common occurrence and which helps to move the game along.

Again, there is great potential for this game to be widely adopted by casinos for its fast pace and simplicity. And with the rest of the world have fallen in love with our food and other parts of our culture, perhaps its time is not far around the corner.

  • Could eSports Have a Knock-on Effect on Offshoots of the Gaming Industry?

Could eSports Have a Knock-on Effect on Offshoots of the Gaming Industry?

In an incredibly short space of time, competitive gaming has gone from being somewhat of a novelty to a global money-making machine. The eSports industry was established yet lacking in appeal to many in 2010, but in 2020, it generates a revenue of $1.1 billion.

It is getting harder and harder for non-believers to ignore eSports now, and the industry is having an effect on other sectors around it. Evidence of this is being seen particularly in the other offshoots of gaming. Developers are now scrambling to think up ways to attract this massive eSports audience.

Developers Will Have a Competitive Element in Mind

Online play was more easily available on the third generation of Sony and Microsoft consoles, bringing (relatively) painless online gaming experiences to the masses; however, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were the first units to truly take it to another level. Indeed, it now seems almost essential for games that were once solely meant for one player to have an online mode that encourages cooperative and competitive play.

Grand Theft Auto V is a prime example of this, with the 2013 title from Rockstar Games expanding on its predecessor’s multiplayer element to bring it to a whole new level. This was hugely successful and it led the developer to do the same thing with its most recent title, Red Dead Redemption 2.

These detailed online modes highlight how major developers are considering how to cash in on the eSports and Twitch-obsessed gaming crowd of the modern age. Gaming is becoming more of a collaborative experience, with streamers on Twitch often allowing their followers to comment and contribute towards the playing of the game. Some players just want to have the opportunity to watch others in action, so having the option to connect a game up to the internet is now becoming ubiquitous.

Games of Chance Could See Skill Based Upgrades

The growing eSports scene has led developers to consider the instances of chance involved within their games with a view to making them available to play on a competitive level. A good example of this is Gwent from CD Projekt Red, a card game which was initially seen as a side feature in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Fans of the open-world epic loved the game so much that they begged the Polish developer to create a standalone game.

When Gwent came about as its own title, CD Projekt Red clearly saw that it had the potential to break into the eSports market alongside similar games like Hearthstone. For this to happen, it attempted to limit the instances of random number generation (RNG) and focus on skill-based gameplay.

There is some speculation that online slots could go down the same route and piggyback on the success of eSports. The popular genre of casino games has constantly evolved over the years to keep up with current trends, and this suggests that it would be open to more changes in the future. For example, developers created real money slot games like Thunderstruck to appeal to Avengers fans and Bridesmaids to bring in players who enjoyed that film. Surely they will try to do the same to attract eSports lovers.

Slots could evolve for the eSports crowd by using IPs from popular video games to expand such worlds into the iGaming sphere and build on the existing lore. Skill-based mini-games could also be introduced as side features to keep the gameplay fresh for experienced fans of both genres.

The influence of eSports is only just beginning, and after its meteoric rise so far it is hard to imagine where the industry will be in another ten years.

  • Must-Have Smartphone Apps to Remain Immersed in the Sports You Love

Must-Have Smartphone Apps to Remain Immersed in the Sports You Love

Following sports used to be a matter of reading the paper and then listening in on the radio or watching it live on television. Nowadays, there’s a tremendous range of platforms that offer you brand new ways to immerse yourself in your favorite sports, and best of all, many of the best options are made conveniently available through your smartphone.

At TechnoSports, we know the power that we all have as sports fans with smartphones in our pockets. We’ve explored a tremendous range of sports apps over the years, and so, we can confidently say that the following are top-class apps which help you to immerse yourself in your favorite sport, keeping you engaged and immersed between the live events.

In the loop with everything cricket

As one of the biggest and most well-supported sports in the world, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that savvy app developers have come up with an ocean of mobile solutions for cricket fans. Of course, particularly in India, the live streaming of cricket is the big-ticket, with Jio TV reportedly increasing Hotstar’s usual coverage reach of the Indian Premier League by 74 percent due to its free streaming of the tournament.

For everything else that cricket fans crave, such as news stats, facts, or live scores when you can’t watch the game, one app stands above all others. The Cricbuzz mobile app is filled with all of the features that you could need. Match scores update instantly, smart alerts keep you in the loop without having to unlock your smartphones, and there’s an ocean of photo, editorials, news pieces, rankings, and player profiles to dig into.

For a different way to interact with the sport, there are even more modern and engaging options. Podcasts have become very popular of late, with their ability to relay information and discussion on just about any topic being very appealing. In cricket, there are many, but it’s Cricket Unfiltered that offers unfettered access to the sport. It’s a weekly show that can be found on the podcast platform Acast, often featuring leading cricket journalists, as well as former and current greats of the sport.

If it’s a more hands-on experience of the sport, there are a great many mobile cricket games, the best of which is the latest of a long-running mobile game franchise, World Cricket Championship 3. In the game, you can play the cricket matches yourself, build and manage your own team, and even face others in the online multiplayer battlegrounds.

The modern way to enjoy one of the oldest sports

All-but unchanged for decades, even centuries, it’s strange to think that one of the oldest and least-technical sports in the world has fully integrated itself in the mobile space. Now, you can engage in several different ways with horse racing, even from the most expensive flagship smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.

There are several websites that have adopted a mobile approach, creating dedicated apps that relay their online content. However, none have done it quite as comprehensively and in such a mobile-friendly way as the Racing app. It’s as comprehensive and diverse in content as the site, but it’s even easier to navigate and consume as a smartphone app. Over the years and years that horse racing has been thrilling the crowds, it’s never gone much beyond the live races – apart from the odd arcade game which saw the plastic horses race.

That has changed now, with developers exploring the ways in which fans can enjoy the sport in new ways. One such entertainment title is that of the exclusive online casino title, Final Furlong. The aim of the title is to land three gold cup symbols, with the ensuing free games tripling every single win. As far as these entertainment options go, it’s akin to being in the crowd and watching your tipped horse run. With the game subsequently illustrating both the online sports entertainment, and progression of the online casino industry overall. Furthermore, in the PikPok mobile title Rival Stars Horse Racing, you take the role of the stable owner. From breeding to training, the game plays you through the whole process of trying to develop a cup-winning horse.

Few other sports have such a range of mobile options

Globally-speaking, football is the absolute most popular sport, which has led to mobile app markets being filled with football-based apps, including ones for streaming, live scores, news, fantasy, and mobile games. When it comes to keeping informed and being a part of the fandom, the top pick app is Forza Football. The core of the app is that everyone in its community can enjoy the live updates and discuss the action. For pure live streaming and the viewing of live football, however, India’s pick has to be SonyLIV, who have the exclusive rights to UEFA Champions League live to stream.

In the console gaming world, for football fans, it’s been a battle between FIFA and PES for years, with FIFA 21 and PES 21 going at it again this autumn. FIFA often comes out on top, at least in terms of sales, but in the mobile space, it’s generally agreed that it’s PES that offers the superior gaming experience. The iOS and Android mobile gaming app eFootball PES continues to earn praise for its realistic gameplay, user-friendly controls, player behaviors, and collection of legendary players infused into the game.

Whether you’re into the cricket, horse racing, football, or all three, those are to top apps for delivering you convenient news, stats, facts, or entertainment.

  • Saving your poker bankroll – Tips from the experts

Saving your poker bankroll – Tips from the experts

Popular poker players constantly admit that it becomes hard for them to maintain their online poker bankroll. If a player is a consistent winner in poker, maintaining a bankroll should not be tough. It is surprising how many popular
and successful players complain about it.

Being on a poker roll and maintaining it requires a lot of discipline and proper planning. In this article, we will be covering 5 tips on how to not go beyond your poker bankroll, no matter how engaging the game could be.

    What is poker bankroll?

In the simplest of ways, your poker bankroll is what you set aside to wager in your poker game. It should not be your mortgage money, bank account balance, or the money for paying your bills. It is purely the money you set aside
    for playing poker.

It is important to decide how much you are willing to spend on playing poker. You might have $1000 in your bank, but only wish to use 20% for poker. In the same way, your bankroll maybe $100, but you can decide to put only $50 with
the online casino. Rest can be kept safely in your account. You get to decide how to manage your bankroll, no matter how you do it. You can read more about bankroll here.

    1. Playing within your roll

Nobody can stress this enough! It is necessary to play within your bankroll otherwise, you might just go broke. When you are playing poker online, you are literally playing against the world. In that order, it is the world’s bankroll
against yours. So, invariably you are playing against the world’s infinite bankroll.

Here’s a scenario to broach on. You have a coin flipping event, and you are against a player that has an infinite bankroll. At some point after a few events, you run out of money to bet, but that isn’t the case with the other player. This is a zero-sum event, where the player with a finite bankroll is at a disadvantage.

If you are someone who wins constantly, you will be sure to replenish your depleting bankroll soon. However, if you’re a beginner playing at online casinos in India, you need to stick to budgets and bankrolls.

    2. Taking the game seriously

It will take a few attempts to get into the mode of playing poker with focus. Some players even play while watching a movie or doing other chores, but it’s best to keep close attention to the game when you’re a beginner.

No matter how you play the game, you need to have a strong ability to think on your feet. If you are not giving your best, there is a high probability that you might not win at all. You need to remember that if you are playing for money,
every decision and every move matters. The more mistakes you make, the more you will lose money.

    • Do not play out of boredom: If you play poker when bored, you might not be able to give it your best. Sit to play poker with your bankroll only when you can and wish to give your best
    • Eliminate all distractions: If a movie distracts you, shut it down. Plan your poker sessions so that you do not get disturbed or get distracted. It is a helpful tip for long run poker play at online casinos in India.

    3. Setting up a stop-loss and stop-win limit

Setting up limits is a casino game strategy that many poker players use to stop when necessary. When you are playing poker, you tend to get lost in the game and end up playing a lot more than you planned. A lot of casino and poker experts suggest that you set a budget limit before sitting at a table.

Before sitting for a game, you should tell yourself, “No matter whether I win or lose, once I have spent Rs. 500 on this table, I am walking away.” Setting limits and reminders can help you maintain your bankroll for longer.

Players also need to set a limit to the winning amount. Once you start having a winning streak, you want to play more and earn more. There’s a good chance that after winning two games, you bet a little higher and win that too.

This might go on for one or two games, but you will eventually lose. In that case, to prevent yourself from losing significant money or chasing your losses, you need a limit. You may decide not to increase your bets after two wins or quit playing after three wins or so. You may even stop playing after facing one loss after a series of wins. Your limits depend on you, but they should help you in maintaining your bankroll.

    Bottom Line

In the end, setting limits and constantly checking yourself will help you. You need to build discipline and stop betting when you need to. In order to encourage safe gambling practices, many online casinos in India have come up with new features. One of them suggests placing a limit on how much money you can use for playing. Once you use the feature, the online casino will not let you bet any more. Arm yourself with the right tools and limits and enjoy gambling!
