Sennheiser has introduced its CX 80U in-ear and HD 400U over-ear wired headphones to the Indian market. The new models feature USB-C connectivity, a design choice made in response to the increasing shift by smartphone and laptop manufacturers away from the traditional 3.5mm audio jack.

The launch aims to provide users with a straightforward audio solution that does not require adapters, Bluetooth pairing, or charging. Sennheiser, through its consumer hearing division, is positioning these wired offerings to meet the demand for reliable audio performance across work, entertainment, and gaming applications.

Sennheiser: Technical Specifications and Design

Both the CX 80U and HD 400U support digital audio playback at resolutions up to 24-bit and 96 kHz. This capability is intended to facilitate high-resolution sound with minimal latency, which can be advantageous for activities such as video streaming, gaming, and professional audio tasks. The wired format is also highlighted for its privacy benefits and zero latency, alongside a design that does not rely on internal batteries.

The HD 400U is based on the design principles of the HD 400S, which was recognized for its bass-driven acoustics and portability. It incorporates a closed-back, over-ear design to provide passive noise isolation. The model features a lightweight construction, a detachable cable, and includes a storage pouch.

The CX 80U draws from the legacy of the CX 80S, offering a compact in-ear design. It provides effective noise isolation and comes with three sizes of ear tips for a secure and comfortable fit.

Connectivity and User Control

Both models are equipped with an in-line smart remote and a MEMS microphone. This integration allows users to manage calls, control music playback, and activate voice assistants directly from the cable.

Universal USB-C connectivity ensures compatibility across a range of platforms, including Android smartphones, tablets, laptops, and personal computers. This aims to provide a consistent audio experience across various everyday devices.

Saahil Kumar, General Manager, Sonova Consumer Hearing, India, commented on the product launch, stating, “As the device ecosystem transitions towards USB-C, we are observing renewed relevance for wired audio. This is driven by consumer needs for simplicity, reliability, and consistent performance. In a market like India, where multi-device usage is prevalent for work, entertainment, and gaming, there is a preference for solutions that function without the complexities of charging or connectivity interruptions. With the CX 80U and HD 400U, we are combining Sennheiser’s audio quality with the convenience of plug-and-play listening.”
