Sunny Deol’s Border 2 just rewrote his box office history—but not quite enough to dethrone the champion. With ₹28 crore opening day, Border 2 secured second place in Sunny’s all-time biggest debuts, trailing only 2023’s Gadar 2 that exploded with ₹39 crore.

Sunny Deol’s Top 5 Opening Day Box Office Powerhouses

Film-by-Film Analysis

Gadar 2 (₹39 Cr) – The Untouchable Champion: Anil Sharma’s 2023 sequel delivered record Day 1 collections and joined Hindi cinema’s elite grossers club. Nostalgic IP + Sunny’s intensity = box office phenomenon.

Border 2 (₹28 Cr) – The Strong Challenger: Anurag Singh’s war drama with Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty launched solidly. Republic Day window suggests strong weekend ahead despite ₹11cr gap from Gadar 2.

Jaat (₹9.50 Cr): Gopichand Malineni’s actioner settled as average performer with ₹112cr gross lifetime. Respectable but not blockbuster.

Yamla Pagla Deewana Franchise (₹7.75 & ₹6.50 Cr): Deol family comedies opened modestly. Declining Part 2 numbers signaled franchise fatigue.

Can Border 2 Match Gadar 2’s Magic?

With Border 2 targeting ₹100+ crore opening weekend, the question looms: historic run or “just” a successful blockbuster? Early word-of-mouth appears positive, holiday cushion helps. Whether it crosses ₹300cr, ₹400cr, or attempts Gadar 2’s ₹500+ crore club remains the mystery keeping box office watchers hooked.
