Struggling to find Silver Ore in Subnautica? You’re not alone! This essential crafting material can be frustratingly elusive for new players, but once you know where to look, you’ll have plenty for all your electronic crafting needs. Let’s dive into the best locations and strategies for gathering this valuable resource.

What Is Silver Ore in Subnautica?

Silver Ore is a conductive material that is required for making a number of electronics. It is used primarily in electronics due to how fast it can transfer heat and electricity, making it one of the most crucial resources for progressing through the game.

Top Silver Ore Locations

Biome	Method	Difficulty	Yield
Lost River	Large Deposits	Hard	High
Dunes	Large Deposits	Hard	High
Grassy Plateau	Sandstone Outcrops	Easy	Medium
Kelp Forest	Sandstone Outcrops	Easy	Low
Underwater Islands	Large Deposits	Medium	High
Bulb Zone	Sandstone/Deposits	Medium	Medium

Three Ways to Find Silver Ore

1. Sandstone Outcrops (Best for Beginners)

Most players will likely find silver ore in sandstone outcrops. These gray, rocky formations are scattered throughout many biomes and can be broken with any tool. Look for them in:

Grassy Plateau – Perfect for early game exploration
Kelp Forest – Close to starting area
Safe Shallows – Occasional spawns near the edges

2. Large Resource Deposits (Advanced Players)

Large deposits are commonly found in the Lost River and Dunes biomes. You’ll need the PRAWN suit drill to mine them, making this a mid-to-late game strategy.

Pro Tip: Exercise caution, as these are fairly challenging areas to navigate, located at moderately deep sea levels and boasting many dangerous fauna, like Leviathans and Crabsquids.

3. Barnacles (Alternative Method)

You can find Silver Ore in Subnautica by harvesting Barnacles, though this method yields smaller amounts compared to the other two options.

Essential Silver Ore Crafting Recipes

Item	Silver Ore Required	Other Materials	Purpose
Wiring Kit	2	None	Essential crafting component
High Capacity O2 Tank	1	Glass (2), Titanium (4), Standard O2 Tank (1)	Extended diving
Solar Panel	1	Quartz (2), Titanium (2), Copper Wire (1)	Base power
Scanner Room	Multiple	Various electronics	Resource detection

Two units of silver ore creates the Wiring Kit, an essential component in many other crafting recipes, making it one of your most important early-game priorities.

Pro Tips for Silver Ore Farming

Build a Scanner Room Early

Setting up a Scanner Room in the Grassy Plateau can revolutionize your silver farming. It will highlight nearby sandstone outcrops and large deposits, saving you countless hours of manual searching.

Use the Right Equipment

Seaglide for quick movement between outcrops
PRAWN Suit with Drill Arm for large deposits
Extra storage – Silver ore stacks in groups of 10

Timing Your Expeditions

Visit dangerous biomes like the Dunes during daytime when visibility is better. Always bring extra batteries and food supplies for extended mining trips.

Safety Considerations

When venturing into deeper biomes for silver ore:

Lost River Precautions:

Bring multiple power cells for your Cyclops
Watch for Ghost Leviathans and Crabsquids
Carry repair tools and extra materials

Dunes Safety Tips:

Avoid Reaper Leviathan patrol routes
Stay close to the seafloor for cover
Use sonar to detect threats early

Why Silver Ore Is So Important

Beyond basic electronics, Silver Ore becomes crucial for advanced base building and vehicle upgrades. The High Capacity O2 Tank alone makes deep-sea exploration significantly safer, while Wiring Kits are needed for almost every electronic device in the game.

Alternative Sources

Don’t forget about debris fields! Crashed ship fragments sometimes contain electronics that can be deconstructed for silver ore, though this method is unreliable for steady supply.

The Aurora’s interior also contains various electronic components that can supplement your silver reserves during your exploration.

Late Game Silver Management

Once you’ve established major bases and vehicles, consider setting up dedicated mining outposts near large silver deposits. The time investment pays off when you’re crafting multiple advanced items simultaneously.

Conclusion

Finding Silver Ore in Subnautica becomes much easier once you know the right locations and methods. Start with sandstone outcrops in safe biomes, build a Scanner Room for efficiency, then progress to large deposits as your equipment improves.

Remember: patience is key! Silver Ore might seem scarce initially, but with the right strategy and locations, you’ll have more than enough for all your crafting needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What’s the fastest way to get Silver Ore early in the game?

A: The fastest early-game method is farming sandstone outcrops in the Grassy Plateau biome. Build a Scanner Room there to locate outcrops efficiently, and focus on breaking every sandstone formation you find. Each outcrop has a chance to yield 1-2 Silver Ore, and the Grassy Plateau is relatively safe with good outcrop density. Avoid dangerous biomes until you have proper equipment like the PRAWN suit.

Q: Can I find Silver Ore without going to dangerous deep biomes?

A: Absolutely! While large deposits in the Lost River and Dunes offer higher yields, you can gather sufficient Silver Ore from sandstone outcrops in safer biomes like Grassy Plateau, Kelp Forest, and the edges of Safe Shallows. Early game players should focus entirely on these safer areas until they have advanced equipment. The Scanner Room makes finding outcrops in these biomes much more efficient.
