Raj B Shetty’s blockbuster “Su From So” officially premiered on JioHotstar on September 9, 2025, but the celebration quickly turned into controversy. While the horror-comedy is streaming in Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam, Tamil audiences are left wondering: where’s our version?

The Missing Tamil Audio Mystery

The unavailability of the Tamil version has upset Kollywood audiences, who feel that they are being ignored by the OTT platform, with only Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam versions currently available for streaming. This unusual omission has sparked heated discussions across social media platforms, with Tamil fans expressing their disappointment.

The Real Reason Behind Tamil Exclusion

Here’s where the plot thickens. The word in the Kollywood circles is that Su From So makers sold the remake rights to a Kollywood producer, and that the horror comedy will soon be made in Tamil. This strategic business decision explains the mysterious absence of Tamil dubbing.

Ajay Devgn and N. S. Rajkumar have bought Hindi and Tamil remake rights for this film, indicating that the original version’s Tamil audio was deliberately withheld to protect the remake’s commercial prospects.

What Made Su From So a Phenomenon?

The film’s success story is remarkable by any standards. Su From So sold over 3.80 lakh tickets in three days and became the first Kannada film in a long time to secure 72 early morning shows on a Sunday, all running to full houses.

Key Success Factors:

• Innovative storytelling: The plot centers around a boy’s innocent crush that unleashes strange events, making everyone believe he’s brought a ghost along with his feelings
• Perfect genre blend: Horror-comedy combination that resonated across demographics
• Strong word-of-mouth: Organic audience appreciation drove sustained box office performance
• Regional authenticity: Genuine Kannada storytelling that felt relatable

Impact on South Indian Cinema

Upon release, it received overwhelmingly positive reviews and became a commercial success, also becoming the highest-grossing Kannada film of the year at the time of its release. The film’s success has reignited interest in regional content consumption patterns across India.
