Steven Gerrard is tearing it up with Rangers right now – but is he the ideal heir to Jurgen Klopp in the Liverpool hot seat?

Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are the only unbeaten team across England and Scotland’s top tiers in football. Let that sink in. The Liverpool legend took charge of the Scottish team back in the summer of June 2018 and has since led them to a great number of victories in the Scottish Premiership. And although Celtic are still top dogs there, he has done well to give them a tough fight and challenge their supremacy.

Gerrard has successfully managed in 132 games, leading Rangers to 84 wins, 29 draws and 19 losses, with a winning percentage of nearly 64%. But the real question is, should Liverpool require a new manager in 2022, can he be the ideal replacement to Klopp?

Now there is no denying that Gerrard had the mental capability as a footballer to perform and deliver the goods for Liverpool time and time again. It was not for nothing that he remained the club captain of the Reds for over 10 seasons. He knows the mentality within the team and the people over there, and so adaptability and communication should not really be an issue.

But then again, with giving Rangers due respect, they are not a team that competes in four competitions with the idea of doing well across all of them.

Liverpool will represent a whole different challenge both in terms of the stakes and the stature and reputation that the club stands for. Gerrard is steadily building his credentials in management, with experience from the Liverpool Academy and Rangers aiding him in his development.

Jurgen Klopp has previously said that the current contract will be his last one with the Anfield-based club, and that would mean a vacant top job for all those interested in carrying the legacy of the team. Whether Gerrard would be the right man for it going into a new reign, only time will tell.
