Leicester City have confirmed Steve Cooper as their new head coach, with a contract till 2027 signed. The former Nottingham Forest manager is back in the Premier League, and will take charge of the Foxes for their first season back in the top flight.

The Welshman led the Tricky Trees back to the Premier League from the Championship and was able to keep them up in his first season back. But, results eventually stagnated and the club opted to replace him.

Cooper’s appointment has come as a surprise for fans, as Graham Potter was one of the names strongly rumoured with the Foxes recently. Leicester’s announcement has seemingly come out of nowhere, since Cooper’s name wasn’t prominently in the mix.

“I am really excited and proud to be appointed Leicester City’s First Team Manager. This is a fantastic Club with a rich history and passionate supporters. I am excited to work with such a talented squad and I’m looking forward to the challenge of achieving our shared ambitions in the Premier League,” Steve Cooper told the club’s official website.

The Leicester squad is set to return from their holidays at the start of July for their pre-season training. And that is when Steve Cooper will meet his players to implement his style of play.

Where did Leicester finish in the Championship this past year?

1st place.
