Stefano Pioli is set to replace Marcelo Gallardo as the new head coach of Al Ittihad. The Italian has signed a three-year deal with the Saudi Arabian club, after a brief spell away from football upon leaving AC Milan at the end of last season.

The board believes that Pioli is the perfect choice for their project going forward, and are on course to wrapping up all necessary details to appoint him as their new man in the dugout.

Why Al Ittihad want Stefano Pioli over other options

This past season, things didn’t work out at all for the former Saudi Pro League champions as their league title was usurped by Al Hilal. Moreover, things behind the scenes weren’t going smoothly either, as the club had to part ways with Nuno Espirito Santo in the middle of the season after a falling out with Karim Benzema.

As a result, Al Ittihad are now confident that a title-winning manager is what they need to get back to the top of the league once again.

An official statement will confirm the arrival of the veteran head coach once all the formalities have been completed between the two parties.

How many years did Pioli spend at Milan?
