Across India, the Indian government has erected a slew of electric vehicle charging stations. By boosting the number of charging outlets throughout the country, the government hopes to assist EV consumers.
FADA has released a report created by the Department of Heavy Industries (DHI) that shows the state-by-state charging stations that the government has erected around the country. The study also shows how many charging stations were installed across the country during the FAME I and FAME II projects.
According to the article, the government established up charging stations in a few states as part of the FAME I initiative. The states that are covered under this are listed below:
- Karnataka
- Rajasthan
- Delhi
- Chandigarh
- Himachal Pradesh
- Uttar Pradesh
- Jharkhand
- Telangana
The FAME II plan, on the other hand, included a few more states. The following states below
- Kerala
- Maharashtra
- Gujarat
- Madhya Pradesh
- Haryana
- Jammu and Kashmir
- Uttrakhand
- Bihar
- Andhra Pradesh
- Tamil Nadu and some other states are also included.
Maharashtra, according to the research, has the greatest number of charging stations in the country. After the FAME II scheme went into force, all 317 stations were installed. The Indian government has erected 10 charging stations in Uttarakhand and Puducherry, respectively.
The FAME I programme resulted in the installation of 314 electric vehicle charging stations. Under the FAME II project, the government, on the other hand, installed a total of 2867 stations. This represents a 900 percent increase.
Across the country, demand for electric vehicles has been steadily rising. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and commercial vehicles are all included in this category. As a result, the government intends to swiftly expand the number of charging stations around the country.
With the support of oil corporations, the Indian government wants to significantly increase the number of charging stations across the country. According to recent rumours, charging stations kiosks may be installed at gas stations across the country to encourage EV adoption.
According to the government, there are approximately 69,000 fuel stations in the country, with at least one electric vehicle charging station planned for each one. This will alleviate range anxiety, which is one of the most common concerns among current and prospective EV buyers.
In FY21, the Indian electric mobility sector registered over 1.35 lakh EVs, according to a report by the Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW). Since 2011-12, nearly 6.38 lakh electric vehicles have been registered in India.

94 Charging Stations in Delhi:
On August 7, 2020, the Delhi administration declared that the city will address the environmental crisis by constructing electric charging stations throughout the city. The government wants Delhi to be India’s EV capital and a city that inspires the rest of the globe to use electric vehicles as their major mode of transportation. So far, 94 EV charging stations have been constructed in the city as part of the FAME initiative, with plans to expand the network.
48 Charging Stations in Chandigarh – Punjab:
In order to promote cleaner and eco-friendly modes of transportation, the Chandigarh administration has proposed an incentive on the purchase of electric automobiles. According to their plan, the first 1000 persons who buy electric vehicles will receive a Rs 5000 incentive per kWh of battery capacity. In the case of two-wheelers, a total of 5000 incentives per kWh of battery will be available for the first 2000 cars. Purchases of three-wheelers will qualify for incentives as well.
49 charging stations in Jaipur – Rajasthan:
Jaipur is the third most populous city in terms of electric vehicle charging stations. The administration of Jaipur is also taking steps to educate residents and raise awareness about the importance of adopting an environmentally friendly automobile.

The Indian government wants to see electric vehicles adopted more quickly in India. As a result, the government is making every effort to entice purchasers from all segments of the electric vehicle industry.
