State of Decay 3: Good News for Zombie Slayers as Development Progresses Smoothly

Xbox fans rejoice! A ray of sunshine breaks into the clouds following a week’s studio closure and concerns about upcoming titles.

It is reported that State of Decay 3, the most anticipated zombie survival game in existence, has made substantial progress.

A Long-Awaited Sequel: State of Decay 3

Back in 2020, during the Xbox Games Showcase, State of Decay 3 was revealed. Undead Labs, the game’s developer at that time, told us it had not yet been completed.

There hasn’t been much information since. A pre-rendered trailer is all we have to go on, and reports in 2022 suggested some early development problems.

However, Xbox Gaming CEO Phil Spencer has expressed his excitement for the game, calling it his most anticipated title. This, coupled with a recent rumor, suggests State of Decay 3 might finally be on the right track.

Positive Rumors on the Horizon

The game has been discussed on the Xbox Two Podcast recently by Windows Central’s Jez Corden, a highly regarded gaming journalist. He said encouragingly, “I know Jeff Grubb said that Perfect Dark wasn’t doing so well. I’m going to say that State of Decay 3 is doing very, very well, and it looks very, very, very good.”

Looking Towards a Larger, More Ambitious State of Decay

While details are still being kept secret, the direction of Decay 3’s course has been shown. Matt Booty, head of Xbox Studios, mentioned in 2018 that he had originally pitched a zombie MMO called Class 4 to Microsoft when the company acquired Undead Labs.

While State of Decay 2’s focus was on cooperative multiplayer, State of Decay 3 might be aiming for a much larger online experience with persistent elements. This aligns with the current industry trend of “live service” games that offer ongoing content and online interaction.

Technical Enhancements with Unreal Engine 5

Another exciting aspect of State of Decay 3 is the use of Unreal Engine 5. This powerful engine promises stunning visuals and improved gameplay mechanics. Additionally, The Coalition, the studio behind Gears of War, is assisting Undead Labs with development.

Their expertise with Unreal Engine and crafting satisfying shooting mechanics should significantly benefit State of Decay 3.

What to Expect at the Upcoming Xbox Games Showcase

In less than a month, fans are eagerly awaiting a new look at State of Decay 3, given that the Xbox Games Showcase is coming up. It’s been nearly four years since the announcement, and with positive rumors swirling, the showcase seems like the perfect time to unveil more about the game.

Undead Labs’ Continued Support for State of Decay 2

It’s important to note that Undead Labs hasn’t been idle while developing State of Decay 3. State of Decay 2 has received consistent updates and new content, with the latest update arriving in March 2024. This dedication to the previous game indicates a commitment to the franchise and its player base.

Availability and Future Potential

State of Decay 3 is now confirmed for PC and Xbox Series S/X. However, future ports to other consoles can’t be ruled out given Microsoft’s recent focus on cross platform play.

Conclusion: A Beacon of Hope for Xbox Fans

State of Decay 3 provides a glimmer of hope in spite of recent setbacks for Xbox. Positive rumors, a powerful engine, and the involvement of The Coalition all point towards a potentially fantastic zombie survival experience.

It’s possible that fans will finally get an in depth look at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase, which is something they have been looking forward to. Stay tuned, and hopefully, State of Decay 3 will deliver the open-world zombie apocalypse we’ve all been craving.
