Apple TV+ is expanding one of its most ambitious universes. Star City, the boldly conceived spinoff of For All Mankind, premieres May 29, 2026 — and after sitting down with its cast exclusively, one thing is clear: this show is going to hit differently.

What Is Star City?

A robust expansion of the For All Mankind universe, Star City is a propulsive, paranoid thriller that takes us back to the key moment in the alt-history retelling of the Space Race — when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the Moon. This time, the story is told from behind the Iron Curtain, showing the lives of the cosmonauts, engineers, and intelligence officers embedded in the Soviet space program, and the risks they all took to propel humanity forward.

The Cast on Space Travel: Real Feelings, Real Answers

When asked if space exploration personally appeals to them, Adam Nagaitis (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon) gave an answer that was refreshingly candid:

“I’m kind of not going to answer your question. I have strong feelings about this whole scenario I suppose. But more importantly, I have been fascinated by space since I have memories. I have been fascinated by the universe. And I think everybody is. And I think I’m never going to go to space. So, because I’m never going to go to space, nobody’s ever going to send me there, safe for me to hypothesize how much I might enjoy it.”

The show’s creators are equally passionate. Co-creator Matt Wolpert told Variety at Canneseries: “With the Artemis II launch that just happened, I felt that excitement again. It wasn’t about space tourism; it wasn’t about the wealthy. It was about being inspired.” Variety

When and How to Watch

Star City will stream on Apple TV+ with a two-episode premiere on Friday, May 29, 2026 — the same day as the For All Mankind Season 5 finale. The eight-episode season concludes on July 10, 2026. Inverse

FAQs

Q: Do you need to watch For All Mankind before Star City?

Star City follows the same alt-history timeline as For All Mankind but tells the story entirely from the Soviet perspective — prior knowledge enriches the experience, but the show is designed to work as a standalone paranoid thriller. TV Insider

Q: Who created Star City?

The series is created by Ben Nedivi, Matt Wolpert, and Ronald D. Moore — the co-creators of For All Mankind — with Nedivi and Wolpert serving as showrunners and executive producers alongside Maril Davis of Tall Ship Productions.
