Sri Lanka vs Australia: Match Highlights
By winning by four runs, Sri Lanka secured a decisive 3-1 series lead. After giving Australia a 259-run target, the hosts steadily picked off wickets until 19 runs were required off the last over. By hitting three fours in the over to reduce the requirement for five off the final ball, Matthew Kuhnemann made things interesting. The Australian hitter was struck out, though, and Dasun Shanaka was able to secure a four-win victory.
Earlier, in the fourth ODI on Tuesday, Charith Asalanka scored his first one-day century and saved Sri Lanka from a top-order collapse before Australia bowled his team out for 258, ending the contest. The hosts, who were given the opportunity to bat first, fell to 34-3 as fast bowlers Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh, and spinner Matthew Kuhnemann each claimed two wickets. Niroshan Dickwella, a wicketkeeper-batsman, was stumped for one in the second over of the innings when Glenn Maxwell initially struck with his off-spin.
Kusal Mendis was quickly sent back by Cummins for 14, and previous match hero Pathum Nissanka was sent down by Marsh for 13 off. But with a mix of prudence and vigour, the left-handed Asalanka (110) and Dhananjaya de Silva (60) partnered for 101 runs to get their side back to a respectable total.
