Sri Lanka defeated India by 6 wickets in the Asian Cup super four, potentially ending India’s chances of making it to the finals. After being asked to bat, they were able to set a target of 174 following their 20 overs. But, Sri Lanka chased down the total by the finest of margins and continued their resurgence in the continental tournament.

Sri Lanka needed seven runs off of the last six, which set up another tense finish for the men in blue. But although Arshdeep Singh bowled a tight final over, he was unable to restrict the opponents and get the much needed win.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma scored 72 runs off of 41 balls and was the top scorer for them. He was backed up by Suryakumar Yadav, who hit 34 runs to set up the target.

India have fallen in defeat to two of their rivals in their last two games. And if this is indeed the end for them, then there is a lot of work to be done. Despite setting up relatively high targets, their bowling and fielding attack was unable to perform at the level needed to get the wins.

The men in blue will face Afganistan in their next game, while Sri Lanka face off against Pakistan in a replay of the 2014 final.
