SQUARE ENIX® has released a free consumer demo for FINAL FANTASY®XVI, the highly anticipated standalone entry in the critically-acclaimed FINAL FANTASY franchise. The demo offers fans early access to the opening prologue, allowing saved progress to carry over to the full game upon its launch on June 22 for PlayStation®5 (PS5™) consoles.

The consumer demo was unveiled during the FINAL FANTASY XVI Pre-Launch Celebration, a grand event in Los Angeles attended by hundreds of fans and guests. The celebration featured a range of activities, on-stage announcements, and panels, building excitement for the upcoming release.
During the event, FINAL FANTASY XVI Producer Naoki Yoshida announced the details of the demo. Players can take control of Clive Rosfield and embark on his epic tale, learning about his ambitions and goals as he embarks on a dark and dangerous path of revenge. Completing the prologue grants access to a special battle demo with unlocked abilities, allowing players to experience exhilarating battles and test a wide array of devastating attacks and combos.
A new trailer titled “ASCENSION” was also revealed, providing fans with a further glimpse of the high-octane action RPG experience that awaits them.
In collaboration with creative agency Anomaly, SQUARE ENIX premiered a short film at the event called “Requiem.” Directed by Diego Contreras and featuring live actors, the three-minute film is accompanied by a moving score composed by the game’s Composer Masayoshi Soken, immersing viewers in the game’s captivating story.
FINAL FANTASY XVI introduces players to a new story set in the dark fantasy realm of Valisthea. The land, blessed by the light of the Mothercrystals, faces the threat of the Blight that endangers its peace and prosperity. The fate of Valisthea rests in the hands of the Eikons and their Dominants, individuals with the power to summon and control these mighty beasts.
Clive Rosfield, known as the “First Shield of Rosaria,” must protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. Clive’s journey will lead him to seek revenge on the enigmatic Dark Eikon, Ifrit, who brings calamity wherever it goes.
SQUARE ENIX’s FINAL FANTASY XVI is rated USK 16 / PEGI 18 and will be available exclusively for the PlayStation®5 console on June 22, 2023.
