Thirty-three years ago, Steven Spielberg made you believe dinosaurs could walk the earth again. This time, he’s not putting them in a theme park — he’s taking you back 235 million years to see exactly how they conquered the planet in the first place.
The Dinosaurs is a four-episode documentary series from executive producer Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment, made in collaboration with the creators of Our Planet, charting the complete story of the rise and fall of dinosaurs — where they came from, why they mattered, how they evolved, and how they ultimately met their fate. IMDb It premieres globally on March 6, 2026, exclusively on Netflix.

What Makes This Worth Your Time?
This isn’t just another nature documentary. Think of it as the spiritual, science-first successor to Jurassic Park — without the chaos and with all the awe.
The series blends scientific research with dramatic storytelling and advanced visual effects. While Life on Our Planet explored Earth’s evolutionary history as a whole, this new series focuses entirely on the age of dinosaurs — covering roughly 170 million years of their dynasty.
Viewers can expect proto-dinosaurs like Marasuchus, long-necked giants like Mamenchisaurus, armoured titans like Stegosaurus and Ankylosaurus, fearsome predators like Allosaurus and T. rex, plus ocean giants like Pliosaurus and early feathered fliers like Anchiornis.
What truly sets this apart is the ILM connection. George Lucas’ Industrial Light & Magic handled the visual effects — the same studio that revolutionised CGI dinosaurs in the original Jurassic Park. The result? Photorealistic creatures informed by the latest paleontological findings, including feathered skin and complex social behaviour science now confirms they had.
Morgan Freeman narrates — his second collaboration with Spielberg, having previously lent his voice to Life on Our Planet in 2023.
