Spider-Man Just Rewrote Hollywood History at the Indian Box Office

Hollywood has a new king in India, and he swings on webs. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, starring Tom Holland, has smashed the all-time record for the biggest Hollywood opening day at the Indian box office, pulling in over Rs. 73 crore gross on Day 1 — dethroning Avengers: Endgame, which had held the crown since 2019 with Rs. 65 crore.

It’s a massive milestone for the Spider-Man franchise and further proof that Marvel and superhero blockbusters remain unmatched crowd-pullers in Indian cinemas, even years after the genre’s global peak.

Top 15 Hollywood Openers in India: Overview

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (2025) — Tom Cruise’s franchise farewell drew a loyal, dedicated theatrical crowd.

Oppenheimer (2023) — A rare non-franchise, non-superhero film to break into the top 15, riding cultural buzz and awards-season prestige.

Furious 7 (2015) — The oldest film on this list, showing the enduring pull of the Fast & Furious franchise even a decade later.

Captain Marvel (2019) — Rounding out the list, another MCU entry underlining Marvel’s dominance across this chart.

Why Marvel Still Rules?

Out of the top 15 openers, 8 belong to the MCU — more than half the list. It’s a clear signal that superhero spectacle remains India’s favorite Hollywood export, even as other genres occasionally break through.

What’s Next?

All eyes are now on Avengers: Doomsday, which many expect could challenge Brand New Day’s fresh record given the sheer scale of anticipation surrounding it. Whether it can dethrone Spidey remains to be seen.
