Sourav Ganguly is officially the new head coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2027. The franchise made the announcement on October 6, 2026, with the post: “Dilli, it’s time for Dadagiri.” The 54-year-old former India captain replaces Hemang Badani, who held the role since 2024.

A Familiar Face in the Dugout
Sourav Ganguly has a long history with the franchise. He joined as an advisor in 2019, working alongside then-head coach Ricky Ponting, in a season that took Delhi to the playoffs for the first time since 2012. He also served as the team’s director of cricket from 2018 to 2019, before stepping away to become BCCI president.
His first head coaching job came with Pretoria Capitals in the SA20, a sister franchise of Delhi. He has also been involved with Delhi’s Women’s Premier League team.

The Road Ahead
Delhi Capitals reached their maiden IPL final in 2020 but have never won the title. After finishing sixth in 2026, they are rebuilding. Cricinfo reports that Rishabh Pant is back at the franchise from Lucknow Super Giants, and that Yuvraj Singh is expected to join as batting coach, though that has not been officially announced.
Franchise chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal welcomed Ganguly, calling him an integral part of the Delhi Capitals family. Ganguly said he was looking forward to taking on the role at a franchise close to his heart.
