Sony’s new PlayStation 5 Pro to come with major performance improvements over regular PS5

According to RedGamingTech, a fresh rumour has surfaced. By 2024, the PlayStation 5 Pro version of the console will be available. Not only that, but it will bring significant enhancements over the console’s base version in terms of various technologies including Ray Tracing capabilities and performance.

This new edition of the PlayStation 5 console will be available by the end of 2023/early 2024, according to RGT’s rumour. It offers a 2x performance boost in regular raster and a 2.5x boost in Ray Tracing over the vanilla version, and it’ll be optimised for PlayStation VR games.

Advanced reconstructive techniques are also said to be used by the console. The techniques will not be the same as AMD’s FSR2 but instead be based on Sony’s research, according to RGT. TSMC’s 5nm process will also be used in the system. This method is developed for high-performance computing and is largely used by Zen 4 cores. Another insider told RGT that the 4nm process from TSMC could be used instead. AKA the M2 SoC process used by Apple.

The timing of this storey coincides with the shipment of a “console prototype” that was recently released. Thousands of devkits were shipped from all around the world to Oakland, California. These devkits, according to TweakTown, are probably modified PS5 systems designed exclusively for software developers.

At the very least, the 2023-2024 delivery date corresponds to our prior coverage of a similar rumour. In our previous piece on the issue, we speculated that Sony may be preparing to replace its PlayStation 5 console with a Pro edition in late 2023 or early 2024. The new console would be equipped with a new AMD SOC with improved performance and would target the high-end 4K/8K market.

AMD and Intel CPUs are still being sold in Russia and at lower prices
