Japanese tech pioneer Sony reached an agreement with Meizu in October 2021 which would include some elements of the latter company’s Flyme OS integrated with Xperia smartphones. Since then, Xperia devices launched in China all come with multiple Flyme apps that offer a completely localized user experience.

Sony Xperia phones will still be based on stock Android with some elements of Flyme OS:

Sony Xperia x FlymeOS

The Japanese brand could already be flirting with the idea of completely switching to Flyme OS on its smartphones, the existing Xperia smartphones that are already being sold in China come pre-installed with the app store, email, weather, news, and information widgets, and others adopted by Flyme.

A recent survey questionnaire that was sent by the Japanese tech company recently sought feedback from users regarding their experience using some of Flyme OS features, one of the questions that the survey posed to users was about their view on Flyme being completely integrated on the Xperia phones to replace the existing OS.

Sony Xperia x FlymeOS

Rumours regarding Xperia devices using Meizu’s Flyme OS initially emerged in January of 2022. A Chinese blogger, later on, revealed that Sony disclosed that the Xperia devices in China will get some localized supplements provided by Meizu with the majority of the OS still based on stock Android.

This survey could be an indication that Sony is reconsidering as the Stock Android experience is not that popular in China in comparison to other markets. A significant number of smartphone makers offer customizations that are tailor-made to suit the needs of the local users.
